Shame shame shame... you didn't read the whole thread:
I though this was pretty common knowledge... yep all cars in Japan are limited to 112 MPH unless the chip gets changed or reprogrammed.

Not to knock your knowledge, ice, but the s4 cars with PS got vehicle-speed sensing variable assist. It was the lower-grade s5 cars (and the Infini, for some reason) that got the engine-speed sensing variable assist.

As for the first 3 Infini models, from "Sports Car Color History, Mazda RX-7" by John Matras:

The first Infini was a 1987 Mazda 323. But it was more than an ordinary 323, more than the turbocharged 323 GT already on the market in Japan, even more than the all-wheel-drive GTX pocket rocket. The Infini was a special version of the latter. "Tenacious" was the adjective of choice for this Japanese family sedan turned Bad Boy.

Flash forward from that time to 1991. Infini had become synonymous with Mazda "skunk works" projects, and a special RX-7, the Infini IV is the ultimare production Infini and the ultimate RX-7, at least in terms of performance. Essentially it is the turbo with more power and less weight. As a more elemental RX-7, Mazda said it offered a glimpse of the future RX-7, due for a 1992 introduction.

And the picture of the interior in that same book shows an arm rest on the center console.

Well I've got a S4 Infini. Its got power windows and air-con, ps, the passenger foot bar thingy and an infini symbol on the back that the previous owner has stuck a mazda sticker over. The steering wheels a momo with the infini sign on the horn button, momo gearnob. The only other interesting thing is the red struts with "tuned for infini" on them.

but some poor, selfish, bastard decided that he wanted most of the stuff i've worked hard for and now my car features a performance tarpolan covering the broken window. bastards stole about $1600 woth of stuff including my mufflers and airflow meter(??).

well thats my rant, and if you wanna know anything more let me know.

Actually the T2 and Base came standard without power steering in 87-88 (and 86 for the base). But yes I gues I wasn't clear that the series 4 cars that had power steering, had vehicle speed sensitive steering, although by 91 Mazda had replaced the VSS steering with the cheaper engine speed sensing except for on the T2 and 'vert.

yeah I didn't mean that the car didn't come with an arm rest, but it came with the short arm rest rather than the $50 optional tall/performance armrest. I can only guess that you must sit lower in the seats, and that the tall/sport arm rest wouldn't work as well, despite the claims of extra pads in the car for grip or that the tall arm rest is a America only option.

Ice,

Sorry, I guess I've never seen the "tall" armrest. Weird. You'd think out of the 7 I've owned, not to mention all the others I've seen, at least one would have had that. I guess it wasn't that popular an option.

Infini 7,

Is yours and Infini III?

9z91rx7,

That lip is the stock TII lip that was an option on the s5 TII's, and I think standard on the 89 and 90 GTUs.

s4 Infini would have been an Infini II, I believe. Does anyone have pictures of these armrests and stuff like that? I've never seen one. I've never seen the passenger side floor brace people are talking about either.

Infini 7, out of curiosity, what is the curb weight of your car? I'm surprised it came with A/C. Thanks for piping up though, I'm glad we got an actual owner in this thread =D

Yeah and what’s funny it that I have had the tall armrest on every FC I have owned except for a 91 I briefly had (I only had for a short time as my wife said I had too many and had to sell some).

Maybe it’s a California car option more often. I know almost no CA cars got the LSD on a Sport as well, but many of the ones in the south came with it (according to members here).

Sweet!!!

I don't know how many people keep track of Infini information, or my Infini project, but to those who are interested, I just found this page on the Mazda RX-7 History webpage it's got a few neat photos, and some information we already know, but after paging back, and putting a team of highly trained translators to work(read: My Japanese girlfriend ) I'm now able to answer with confidence that the color IS green, not black like some were thinking =P The paint code, however, is still a mystery. Jason(NZConvertible) has this color on his car, but the paint code is stamped as PZ, which is brilliant black here in the states. I don't know if JDM paint codes are any different. If you have knowledge on the paint, PM me or post up, I'd be very interested in knowing, as I will be painting in the next few months. If I can't find it, I'm going to go with a dark dark British Racing Green, or something similar. Anyway, small news, I know, but I wanted to throw up this link, along with a translation of the part describing the car as green. Here are some neat pics too!

'90 2 specialized car, savana " -Company 70 years
RX-7 Infini memory celebrating limited car
version released -Memorial BODY color shade green is adopted
-Handmade full bucket type seats are adopted
6 specialized car, savana " -LSD "torsen" def is adopted
RX-7 Infini -Infini specialized Pirelli P-ZERO tire is adopted
released
I didn't bother to get the entire translated page, because it's info we already know. Tire size, LSD, bhp, etc... This is just the description of the page I linked, on the Mazda RX-7 History webpage

Steve

P.S. In about a week or so, the Infini brochure I got from a guy in Japan(thanks to Kevin-RarestRX for the pointer) will be here, and I'll be putting up a PDF file of that brochure with an english translation superimposed on the Japanese text. Should be pretty sweet! Sorry to dig up an old thread, but for those of us trying to learn more about the Infini, this is a good find as information is so scarce! Peace!
P.P.S. I finally figured out what those armrests looked like Mark, lol, as it turns out, I've never had an FC that didn't have 'em either, so I couldn't imagine anything being taller than what I already had =P

Don't assume that JDM vehicle will be stuck at ~113mph just because of the stock speed governor.&nbsp One of the most popular mods is installation of a SCD or Speed Cut Defensor.&nbsp It allows the car to defeat the 180kph speed governor very easily.

It's much easier than that. Look back through this thread for my post on disabling the JDM speed limiter.

Let me summarize what I know and what I can answer.

No roll bars and 4pt seatbelts were stock even for the Infini.

Infini1 to 2 had mechanical LSD, 3 had viscous LSD, and 4 had torsen.

No FCs here in JPN came stock w/. the taller armrest, they were optional item installed at a dealership.

Color code here seems to be the same as the state side, brilliant black=PZ, flame red=SQ, etc.

Infini 1 were available in noble white, and brilliant black, Infini 2 were available in crystal white, and brilliant black, Infini3 were only available in shade green, Infini4 were available in shade green, and black.

All Infini seats were not adjustable/tiltable except for the Infini4.

Infini4 came w/. 7"+8" tandem brake vac. booster, other Infini were w/. 9" single booster.

Rr. hub toe control was not eliminated, but reduced by changing stiffness of the bushing.

All Infini came with an aluminum under cover that located behind the Fr. crossmember to cover transmission area.

Infini did not come w/. radio but did come w/. AC, engine rpm sensing PS, tilt, PW, PM, Bronze painted glass, windshield w/. green sunshade band on top, foldaway anti-glare side view mirrors, and full aero dynamic parts like Fr. lip spoiler, side skirts, Rr. spoiler.

Rest of the things, pretty much all have been mentioned in this thread.

Additionally, total # of Infinis made:
Infini1: 600, Aug,86 to Jan,87
Infini2: 600, Jan,88 to Aug,88
Infini3: 1150, Aug,89 to Feb,90
Infini4: 900, June,90 to Feb,91
Grand total: 3250

Reference:
genuine Mazda Infini3 sales brochure published in Nov./90

And all JPN domestic vehicles are with the well-known 180km/h speed limiter!!! I heard it soon will be lifted though.

Have fun!

That's strange. My paint code is PZ (just double-checked), and it's a very dark green. It's definitely the factory paint too. I've just changed the clutch master cylinder and all the exposed painted surfaces under the dash are all the right colour.

BTW, great info.

Rx-7 Infini Autoweek 6/3/1991 article

Searched and didn't see this, scanned article attached:

You can see the infini leg/knee pads on page 2 mounted on the side of the center console and under the door speaker on the panel as some were asking about mounting points to reference.
