Infini series...
 

The information I've been able to collect on the Infini series from past posts and google has just not been enough. Does anyone have any links to all the nitty gritty details of the infini series? Particularly the III and IV. I'm thinking of attempting a replica car, and I need a TON of info. I don't mind if the pages are in Nihongo, if I can collect enough info, I promise to put up a fact page and link it here. Thanks a lot guys!

P.S. I'm sorry I can't post a list of what I already know about the infini series, it's in a .txt file on my laptop which I don't have access to untill I return to school. I hope to see lots of links links links =D thanks again guys!

Thanks for the bumps guys... I don't think much information has ever been collected about the Infini in one thread, so I guess we can make the best out of this one I'd still like to see some links!! to some serious deconstruction of what was done to these cars to make them race ready. Especially guys who may OWN one! :D Well, here's what I was able to collect in short time:

weighed in at about ~2700 lbs(?)
215h due to a higher flowing exhaust(?)
4.3 rear end
no sunroof
no A/C
no power anything,
no radio
no speakers
no power steering
no ABS
no power windows
no rear windshield wiper or squirter
stiffer springs
a front strut bar
eliminated rear steer
special lightweight seats
special 16" BBS mesh rims with the Infini "Lazy Eight" centercaps
some weight reduction due to sound dampening materials removed(?)

If you actually own an Infini, I know a few guys do, speak up! I'd love to hear more!

Some more info on the infini IV:

Came standard with a strut brace, passengers foot rail, no air conditioning, no sunroof, and no radio, but it did come with a Torsen type LSD.

Mazda removed most of the insulation and a streamlined but much louder exhaust (that’s where the extra 15HP came from) was included.

The cloth only seats were fixed angle, so they were not adjustable for rake. The raised armrest was not available although there was supposed to be additional padding to the center consol and doors, to help keep you in place.

Suspension changes included a 10% increase in spring rates and 25% stiffer shock rebound and compression. A smaller (23MM) anti-sway bar was used, and no rear steering. The car was about 1" lower than the standard T2.

Pirelli developed tires specifically for the car based on the P-zero and a 205/55-16 was used just like the stock T2, but on ultra light weight BBS one piece forged BBS wheels.

The brakes received harder pad material and Mazda went back to the engine speed sensing power steering system found on the series 4 and early series 5 T2 and GXL. The steering ratio was changed to 17.4:1 similar to what was found on the GTUs.

There were no markings on the car to call it an RX-7, but in on the hub caps, and rear were the infini symbol.

Amber fog lights and green/black paint finished off the car.

The car weighed 2700 lbs, which was about 300lbs lighter than the standard 91 US spec T2.

And I can't find anything to back up my earlier assumption of a roll bar.

How can that pic that Icemark posted be right? 14.9 1/4???? And a 112 est top speed?? I dont care how far theyr geared down. I thought a stock TII ran a high 14 and had a 140 or so top speed. Nice info though btw Icemark thanks!

JDM cars are speed governed to 112 MPH max.

???? So skylines and FDs and shit in Japan only do 112 off the lot? first Ive heard of this.

I though this was pretty common knowledge... yep all cars in Japan are limited to 112 MPH unless the chip gets changed or reprogrammed.

hahha 112? Thats cruising speed for me. I hit 135 the other night racing a Acura CL Type S. Too bad his speed limiter kicked in at 120mph and I just cruised right by him.

Well thats not much fun at all now is it!

Luckily, Mazda made it much easier than that. The ECU gets its speed signal for the limiter from the speedo. On the back of the instrument cluster there's a small screw with '180' (as in 180km/h or 112mph) printed beside it. Remove the screw and the limiter's history... ;)

wow, i run about 15.5 at 2200ft altitude in an 86 n/a with gutted precats, cone filter, and one belt. lol

I wonder if I have a speed limiter on my 86..i can only muster 120 out of her in fourth..My s5 would do 135 all day with 2 people in it..I need to make another high speed run now that I have done alot of mods..
