Infini (1988 series III maybe for sale)

I was wondering if you guys could help me out with the interest level of a 1988 Infini series III. Well, the 88 infini is completely bone stock. There is about 84000km on the odo and everything is STOCK. I am debating if I should sell it for an FD. It drives super well and except for the series IV infini, it is the 2nd most saught after FC3S.

Would anyone be interested in trading this series III for an FD? I'm just trying to gauge interest levels at this point.

Why get rid of it....in my opinion I'd rather have one of those than an FD, but that's my two cents. You might get lucky and find someone willing to trade with a lil cash for an FD.

I have no FD to give, but I know that you'll have ALOT of people biting your heels for that car. I'm not sure if an FD would be worht it, FD has better :

-looks
-reliability
-newer
-turbo setup and hp
to alot of people this is too much ot give up for rarity

Then again it isn't as rare, nor does it have the coolness of owning a really rare car.
You might get lucky, you could sell it for alot and maybe add a tad bit with pocket for an FD. then again I'm no price guide, but good luck. If you really do want an Fd (I can see why) then I think you can sell it (easily) and depending on how much you get, the FD should be aquirable. Intrest should be a last worry for you, you have one rare car.

wow.. three responces in 10 minutes.

I know that there are a few series III's floating around from importation from Japan, but from what I've seen and heard, they have all been heavily modified. I was looking for a series IV for more than half a year with no luck so I settled for an unmodified series III. The series III was hard enough to find stock.

Does anyone on rx7club own a series IV? I would love to find out how long they waited and how much they paid for their uber rare FC.

I know this infini is much rarer that an FD, but to be completely honest, I have always had my eyes set on one since day one. If anyone wants to trade their FD or knows of anyone who would want to trade their FD for my infini, please let me know over this thread. Hopefully, we can make this a win win situation.

That reminds me, this car is located in Richmond B.C. I didn't realize that you guys couldn't have RHD cars in the states. If that's the case, I may be out of luck.

well, thats not entirely true........ skylines have been brought to the states and registered legally for a few years now...... and ive seen quite a few other "legal" rhd cars around cali....... so as long as it goes through "the process", im sure it could be made legal in the states

It's not that... it's simply that it's pretty much impossible to get a J-spec car street legal for the US. It's not illegable to be exempt, nor is it old enough. Or it would cost a LOT of money.

And I thought the III was a kouki (89), not a zenki (88)?

I've never heard of a street legal imported J-spec RX-7, at least. One that's actually registered, legitimately (without switching a VIN or bribing someone), that is.

question though, if thats the 2nd most sought after FC, then whats the first?

besides if i had the money to buy it, id definatly find away to get around it...(besides, what are they going to do? tell you you have to keep it on the other side of the bay?)

I don't believe the FD has better reliability. what are you really going for? The looks of the FD?The Infini has much more in common with FD than it does with FCs.

"It seemed as if Mazda executives had designed a concept car--which would eventually turn into the 3G--but decided to run off a few copies just for themselves."

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/

just in case anyone is wondering how to import a car into the US. For an FC it shouldnt be hard at all because there is a comparable model that was sold in the states. If you read the info an FC is legible for importation.

The infini IV is the rarest FC, making the III the second rarest, and there is no way an FD is more reliable than any FC. However, finding someone to make an even trade like that might be a little difficult. I just dont understand why you would do that. FD's are beautiful, granted-but a j-spec infini is amazing! The chances of you ever owning another one of those on this side of the pond (especially stock!) are a million to one; whereas, FD's are always available for sale.

That's just my $0.02, but to each his own

Thanks for the clarification guys. I know that importing a RHD vehicle that is 15 years or older (I've heard of rumours that they are changing it to 20 - 25 years in Canada with the next few years) and registering it in British Columbia is a relatively easy process as we have a number of importing services available to us with our high demand in old school import cars. With that being said, I still don't fully know the rules and regulations for importing 15 year old rhd cars in the United States. Is it different throughout each state or is it standardized across the U.S.?

Here are a few pics of the infini for those who are interested. The interior pic and front end pic aren't great, but it's all I have at the moment so it'll have to do.

That is an s5 car... I'm not sure if was the same in Japan, but s5's were 89+ FC's.

kind of reaffirms what Valkyrie was saying, right?

I am sure they were looking at the build date instead of the model date.

Its a common car newbie thing to do. Look at the build date and just because it was built in 88, think that the car must be an 88 model year.

Build dates and model years have seldom to do with each other.

and that interior picture that he posted has the wrong seats... thos seats are from an 87 or 88, and do not match the door panels or what came with the S5 Infini models.
