Its measuring the amount of air forced into the engine from a turbo usually. So basically how much boost you are running.

well, oil pressure gauge, uses PSI,

the tires use about 30psi for most street tire applications.

aftermarket boost gauges use PSI

cooling system uses PSI

compression gauges use PSI

Howmany things do you want to know about... everything that is pressurised in a car uses PSI

What kind of psi? There is psi for your tires, psi for an air compressor, and there is psi when you record boost pressure for turbo cars.

The more psi, the more pressure...

No one really relates psi to anything but tire pressure and boost from a turbo. You need to ask some more specific questions now.

well i know my friend said somthing about how much psi he was running. about his fb gs. so maybe he was talking about fuel, but i just dont know. a simpler question would be:
what other mods can i do besides the basic bolt ons like intake and exhaust? AND A TUNE UP

The air thats being brought into an NA engine isn't heated by a turbo before being put into the engine. The air brought into an NA wouldn't get any cooler by using an intercooler because and IC doesn't get air that cool. Getting cool air into your engine is a good idea, but you don't need an intercooler on an NA. On turbo vehicles, the turbo heats the air up so much, that an intercooler is needed to try and cool it down to as close as it can to what it would be without a turbo.

Street port and lightweight flywheel sounds good to me.

Intercooler are usually used for turbo cars so that it can cool the flow of incoming air. Cooler air makes more power.

when i see these pictures of the intercooler being huge and on the grill, how much does that help? the air has to go through a maze before its put into the engine.

It doesn't help NA cars. It helps turbo cars that are running high boost(psi) levels. I put one on my car so it would be safer to go past 12psi. But I have a TURBO.

i know on TURBO's, but does the air not loose momentem after going all around the car in pipes?

Yes you might see some pressure drop, but the the air temps will be lower and have less chance of detonating. And you can raise the PSI that you lost with the pressure drop by having a boost controller.

Hmmm, when I submitted building plans for my deck I had to specify what the min PSI weight on the deck was for the span post to post and what the concrete density that holds the beams was designed for. Both those were expressed in PSI.

So that is why I included it as weight.

Acutllay PSI means per square inch.

The deck project you were refering to is for detering the mass amount of mass the posts will have to support. Mass is measured in terms of weight. The amount of mass the post has to hold up per square inch is the mass/psi. or lb/psi.

The amount of air we shove into our intake is volume. Volume in this case is being measured by mass. Everything has mass *including air/o2. Mass (see above) is measured in terms of weight. Hence lb/psi.

So 1/psi is shoving 1lb of air into our car per square inch of the actual intake ports. Pushing 9 lb/psi means we are pushing 9 times as much air into the engine as 1lb/psi.

So for example, say our intake port is 5 inches quare (I have *ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA IF THAT IS CORRECT* than at 1lb/psi we are pushing 5 lbs of air into engine. At 9 lb/psi we are pushing 45lbs of air ino the engine.


OK heres a quick derrivative

Intake Air is gas measured in mass (which derives to) weight (the fact its derived from mass in theory means a car will run different bosst [lb/psi] at different altitudes) or (lb/psi)
Fuel is liquid measured in volume, measured in weight, or (lb/psi)
weight limit for deck posts is mass measured in weight or (lb/psi)

Units change when you're outside the states for our metric friends.
