Im no longer a fanboy...

Ive just bought an 88 GXL (my first rotary ) it runs great and im excited to have it although im worried about it passing emissions:

The previous owner said the cat was hollowed out and it needs a new one to pass emissions. Just what I want to know: What type of cat do I need? Something specific would be nice (just make it easy on me)-- ive already searched the forum and came up with other things I should check to make sure the car passes (I would like to do this ya know.. legally), I just need to know exactly what kind of cat I need.

Thanks in advance

you need a stock catalytic converter from a 88 GXL or any other rx-7 that used the exact same cat.

junkyards won't sell them to you (at least by me). you'll have to buy it under the table or get one from another owner.

Go with a *bonez* brand cat if you have around $250. I have the single cat/presilencer combo pipe. before my 107000 mi. rotary blew I passsed the sniff test with .01 on one reading and 0 on the other reading with my e.g.r. valve disconnected! It sounds awesome, and it will spank a regular cat in the hp department. Beveive it!!! BTW: they looked at the setup and passed me in AZ (said my car only must have one catalitic converter) so you should be alright unless the emissions people are in CA or their jealous of anybody with a faster car

I was impressed with mine. And the sound from the included resonator is very pleasant as well.

Where in Georgia do you live? If you can hold out about a month or two, I'll sell you my catco cat, its like a month old. I'm doing a turbo swap, and its just not gonna work on the turbo, so PM me if you are interested in it.

catco's are hollowed out cats aren't they? Atleast that's what I've heard. Remember a rotary cat has to be higher quality than most other car cats due to the high exhaust temps.
