I'm Buying a 2nd Gen RX-7, I Have a Couple Questions First.

Hi, I'm new here and heres my story. Well, right now I own a 1990 Nissan 240sx and I have to admit I love it dearly, however, its an automatic and it has incredibly poor compression. The one thing in it that isn't disappointing is the handling, I've heard from people that the RX-7 is even better in corners plus from the stats I've looked at its got a good amount more power from the factory. Now on to the questions...

1. There seem to be quite a few models of 2nd Gen RX-7, i also see that some of them have dual exhaust, I was wondering if all the models have dual and what some of the other options are in the different models.

2. I have a friend that owns a 1990 Chevy Cavalier Z24 and i want to be able to smoke him since he has no love for imports, my 240 can't because of the lack of power it has through lack of compression and the pittiful automatic tranny launch, so I wanna know how badly a 2nd Gen can roast a 90 Z24.

Thats it nothing too complicated, I'm quite sure the 2nd Gen will replace the 240 very soon even though the girlfriend doesn't want me to sell the 240 and thinks the RX-7 is ugly, but i don't care cause i like it and its my choice. Thanks in advance if you reply and answer something or just plain welcome me here.

hmm.

well
depends on the model. ALL of them come with dual exhaust stock. Turbos are fast. N/A cars are still reasonably quick. Neither should have much trouble with a stock z24, even if its a 3.1/5spd.

There is a good buyers guide somewhere on www.aaroncake.net . Check it out.

An FC should definetely be able to roast a z24, unless the FC is horribly beat-up engine-wise. The FC has a very good power-to-weight ratio, and perfect weight distribution. This means that it's quick and handles great...Even my convertible handled better than anything I had owned previously. I have a TurboII now, and its even better than the vert. Also, all FC's came with stock dual exhaust, and there are many different models:
1-Base (SE)-base model, 14" wheels, no luxury.
2-GXL-the heaviest, but most luxurious model-has power everything, leather seating, and an electronically adjustable suspension. 15" wheels.
3-GTU (and GTUs)-lightest models. Have roll-up windows, no power locks, sunroof (no sunroof on GTUs). 15" wheels.
4-Turbo II-The best (IMO) FC. Turbocharged, intercooled. Power options including sunroof, and the 10th Anniversary Model had leather. 16" Wheels. Limited-Slip Diff.

The Series 4 (86-88) non-turbos had 146Hp, and the turbos had 182. Series 5 (89-91) had 160 for non-turbo and 210 for turbo. The big visual cues between the series 4 and 5 are the mirrors, tail lights, and front air dam. The later series has the circular-light tails, a bigger front air dam, and all models had aero mirrors. You can tell the Turbos from the non-turbos by the hood scoop. Hope this helps...PM me if ya need any more info.
