im broke my car is rich
I am having issues with running rich. I have an 86 gxl n/a cat back exhust, short stack with a k&n cone fillter. new injectors (stock) new pd, new o2 sensor went to shop no codes came up. all adjustments on mixtures were done yet we are still running 7x the fuel we should be. still race at local track and dont get beat. changed the tps with a used one made some change but did not fix it. hard to start and wont without giving some gas, and then it gives a small cloud of smoke (unburnt fuel?) then clears up after a very short time always smells of fuel. we also have a mysteries tick. any ideas would help me out this has been going on to long. please help

you can smell the fuel very strong so after making all the changes that I could and nothing made a change I took it to the shop for final adjustments.when I took it to the shop for all the adjustments no codes came up and the mechanic told me we were running 7x the fuel we should be
Timing? You probably have already checked this but the timing will make it run rich and be very hard to start. My timing was off and it wouldn't start without giving it gas, set the timing dead on and bam, it would start like a dream.

is there a way of testing the one ive got or do i just need to spend the money to get another one like i said im broke for another two weeks and i mean BROKE. this car has over $700 in the last 3 weeks just trying to fix it
Are the cats original?
Did you confirm visually they are not clogged or falling apart?
I dunno if the '86s come with the idle mixture screw, but you might want to mess with that if you have one.
I assume the air pump and all emissions are in good, working order, especially ACV and EGR valves?

Holy hell...Talk about a thread of random guessing.
First things first...Do a full 60K tuneup. Replace belts, hoses, fluids, spark plugs, wires. Set the TPS.
Now, test the air temp sensor and water temp sensor (at the water pump) per the factory manual.
Since you have a cone filter, make SURE the AFM is oriented in the factory position (black cover up). If the flapper door is hanging down, the car will run rich. If it is pointing up, the car will run lean.
Do NOT adjust anything until you are sure that all the sensors are operating correctly.
