I'm back. I've brought a gift.

Hey, hey, party people!
Long time no post.
Look what I found in my car today!

The Gift is the original recall letter that Mazda USA sent out, having to do with the mouse track style seat belts (High DPI for printing, sorry about the coffee stains).

I just scaned it in hopes that it might stop some people from getting hassled at the dealerships about paying for repairs, when they should be free.

Anyways, I've been busy. How 'bout you?

Cool, I saved it just in case.

How can I tell if the previous owner did the repair? It's a 89 GTU... so that does apply right? Can I just take it to the dealership and they can see if it was repaired? Will they have it on file?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Lifetime warranty. No matter how many times it breaks they are still supposed to replace it!

I still have the original letter from my car's PO (1st).

I know it's a lifetime repair, but how can I tell if the previous did the repair?

Just go and get it done anyways again?

Yeh. Get it done again. I would.
On the note about telling if the preivious owner reparied it before hand, I don't know if there is a way to tell.

I plan on making a printing PDF, it's basicly a copy of the letter that prints out better through adobe acrobat. So people wouldn't need to print out a jpeg file.

Mazda Service folks at any dealership can run a warrenty repair history based only on the VIN #. I had it done on my car, no hassle, they were happy to do it.

Unfortunately, there is no central storage (computer) among Mazda computers that will let you learn what service (non-warranty) was done by VIN # at any Mazda dealership.

PDF UPDATE

Hey!
I Just Finished the PDF Version of the letter copy. (See attached Zip).

It looks almost exactly like the real letter. Also, it should print 1000 times better than the JPEG format I posted earlier. If you find any errors please tell me.

Lookie, Lookie.

Your Da Man!

I have to tell you while fun to once again know more than the local service writers, I will be happy to bring my belt repair to a close. They have stood their ground for weeks. I think partially because the guy hates the fact I know more about rotaries then he does about cars. (he is a dumb *** who thinks that rotaries NEVER ran on two distriutors - he said it's impossible)

So I am going to have to bring in my kid running a video camera when I bring this letter in to capture his face.

Value of upstaging a MAzda Service Writer - Priceless!

Ha, hah! Rahh! He will know pain!
Nice. Be sure to use the numbers on the letter if they don't comply. Start with the Mazda #, if they don't fix it within the next day, call the Auto Safety # and get there *** in trouble.

Thye hate when I come in.

By day mild mannered suit and tie corporate professional.
By evening, Pain in the **** know it all (not hard in a mazda dealership whre rotaries are an afterthought - Props to those that do keep up with the engine).

One time they tried pullling out ASE cert's. Hell I was a Master Tech in auto and diesel before they changed the name to ASE in the early 80's. Plus for fun, I brought in my old (emphasis on old) Mazda training certs for RX-2, RX-3 and RX-4's. A guy in a suit with all those certs really blew this guy away. Its been a big pain in the *** just to get the damm seatbelts fixed.

Oh, and the writer asked why he has never seen my two cars for anyting except lifetime recall warranty stuff. Need I answer?

Hah. Well you could answer: "Well bitch, I could do it myself, but since my car is covered by the recall, I want you to suffer."

I got a great solution besides taking it in to the Mazda dealership...rip that **** out of your car and retrofit a manual seatbelt system. No regrets here, it was great! Plus I dropped about 25 lbs in weight. I am currently modifying my S5 interior panels to somewhat look like canadian spec, if I only could have found a canadian spec black S5 interior.

will the swapped seatbelts still lockup when you break/accel hard?

Of course they will lock when you brake hard. I took them out of another s4 rx7. If they didn't, they wouldnt be DOT legal. Everything bolts in. The S5 cars we have were actually outfitted with manual belts in Canada, so there is not problem retrofitting. The hardest part is modifying the interior pieces to make it look clean.

Yeah it works well at times and I am not even 50. My teenagers introduce me to their friends as the "older than dirt father" I guess when my son brings home another 18 year old bomb shell, the drooling can be easily explained.

It all kind of wears off when they go into my garage, I have cooler stuff than he does. HAHAHA
