I like the idea of parting the engine, then putting the money into buying a J-spec from a vendor that will stand behind their product.

i also question the atkins thing, i've heard nothing but GREAT things abot atkins the whole 2 years i've been on this forum.

yeah, all this work just to own another USED engine? i dunno aaroncake..

As I recall from a chemistry class, no common solvent will dissolve carbon, except molten steel.

With the other fuel residue gum deposits, ATF or MMO can help.
In Jacobcartmill's case I'd give it a try.

It all comes down to money. For example, when the bridgie engine I am building right now lets go, I'm putting in a 20B. If you have the money to start buying new parts and rebuild it properly. Or, you can never go wrong with a Mazda reman.

But if money is an issue, you need to start cutting corners. If you are capable and comfortable building the engine yourself, then go for it. HOWERVER, it is very easy to build a 1000KM engine. Many people have done the "cheap self rebuild" only to have it cost them much more money in a few months.

It all comes down to money. Cheap, fast, reliable. Pick any two.

The "red line" action is partly about getting the oil injectors going so combustion residue dosen't build up on the seals.
Pre-mix makes that a non-issue.

I say talk to "atkins" and find out if they built your motor, they porbably have a log somewhere. If they didnt, they're gonna be pissed at rotary works foer claiming to sell one of their engines, Then you can get the police involved with rotary works on fraud. I say call atkins though, and ask them if they have anyway to tell you if you have an engine they built.

if the counterweight is built into the flywheel and you have different series rotors its only a matter of time before this motor dies a hideous death. Did you know about the combonation before buying it?

As ridiculous as that may sound at first to get the police involve think about it for a second. If you do a little investigation and you find out they lied to you or told you half truths that made you more interested in buying the product, they essentially screwed you.

Now you say you paid $1300 for the motor? If someone broke into your house and took a big pile of 13 hundred dollar bills would you call the police? I bet you would.

Give atkins a call, they are good guys and will more than likely be able to tell you if they actually did do that rebuild. If you find out they didnt call rotary works and try to work it out with them first, if they refuse to make the situation right, thats when the police come into play.

Pips got it straight man. You gotta do it the right way.

Step 1: Call Atkins, Find out if they built your engine, give them whatever they need to prove it, they probably have a log. If they built it, ask them about it, and tell them wwhat happened. They'll probably help you out. If they Didnt rebuild it, go to Step 2.

Step 2: Call Rotary Works, tell the that you know for a fact Atkins did not build your engine, and you want the problem solved at no cost on your part because they lied. Or, Try to cut a deal with them in which you don't have to pay. (they already have $1300 of the money you spent time earning, don't let them cheat you for more since THEY lied.) If they cooperate, have them do their stuff and wait for a new engine. If they do not make an agreement, go to step 3.

Step 3: Get the police involved! I don't know much about what to do here, but I'd tell them that Rotary Works lied, and you have the proof. Show the police all they need to see, they'll be on your side. Then have it taken from there. The police can help you out alot(as long as your not a convict).

Hope thats easier, and I think thats the best way to take care of this situation.

-Ian

If you paid for it with a credit card or debit card dispute the transaction. Get your money back so you can get the enigne rebuilt. If someone ripped me off i'd get the police and wish to god i dont see him/her for i will most likely get put in jail for a long time, for beating the **** out of him/her. My 2 cents

shane said i could send this engine back and trade it for a jspec that they would "stand behind"

would anyone recommend doing that?

I'd do that then. But have the J-spec come with a contract signed by shane that says he "stands behind" the engine. Just have it like a signed warranty.

it states on rotaryworks.com that they only have a "startup" compression and coolant bypass warranty for their jspecs...

i doubt i'd be able to squeeze any real warranty out of them..

jeez.

$2500 Canadian gets you a basically "new" engine from a builder around here, new rotors + new housings... that's like what, $5.06 us?

I think that he should give you the jspec to put in your car while he fixes that engine and rebuilds it PROPERLY, and then gives you back a nice mint motor and you can give him back his jspec when it has good compression.

Youre on the right track now you kinda gotta roll with it, bust his ***** and tell him you need more than just a jspec with a startup warranty to make the situation right again. See if you cant squeeze something else into the deal. Right now you have the upper hand youve just got to wield it a bit.
