Question the "im in afghanistan and I want to buy an RX7 thread"

greetings from afghanistan. 4 ID represent. so im like almost 3 months into deployment right now and im starting to settle into the groove of things here and all can think about lately is my wife for one but also my old FC. It was that car that you F*&#ing hate but now that its gone you want it back. that was a couple years back now. anyways, ive been thinking ill need a car after i get back because im giving my murano to my wife and will be paying it off but ill need a DD for base and such. and i have lots of experience working on the 13b inparticular so i was wondering what would be the best route for the cheapest amount of money.

car: s4 turbo. s5 aero.
target hp: 300-350 reliable everyday power
budget: 3000-5000 depending on how things play out with finances when i get back
purpose: DD and the occasional drag strip. (im colorado springs (approx 6000 ft.)) and a 10 foot car.
time: ill have the weekends and about 30 days leave after i get back. i plan on spend at least 5 of those days solid on the project. plus an hour or two a night depending

so i will have the time to do some fab work but the brunt of it will have to get done during leave. The big question im asking is this. in your opinion, would it be cheaper to find an rx7 with a decent engine and put money into the bodywork? or find one with all of that already done and drop money in the engine/chassis restoration.?

so like i said ive already done both i.e. engine rebuild and body work. but what do you think i will spend the most on if i want a decent 7 that has 300ish hp.

must haves: (preferably in good used condition)

aero:
rear 1/4: over fenders 30-40mm?
front: wide fender (not picky about style)
side skirts: maybe gp sports
rear: i dont want a large ***, just like bumper add ons or a diffuser
front: also subtle like a lip or re bumper.

as for the engine.
reliable hp and supporting mods(good fuel delivery mods...fires=bad joo joo)
most likely a hybrid of some sort. maybe a BNR stage 3
NO AFM

suspension and drivetrain:
wheels: deep dish ...gotta have that lip!!!
suspension: at least lowerd to fit the rims flush or used coilovers

maybe:

standalone??? i know they are much more simple and less crap to worry about then the stock harness

is it doable?

you want exterior mods and significant engine related mods. This is not gonna happen on your budget of time and money. For now pick one direction to go.

triple your budget. You are looking at a minimum of $12-15k for what you want if it's done right. You also won't be able to squeeze a build of this magnitude into a 30 days. You will inevitably be stuck waiting for parts. It happens all the time.

Maybe you should try to find a clean T2 that is closer to stock and actually runs right, then save money and modify it slowly.

No, you are looking at a $15K car even if you avoid the expensive stuff. Paint and bodywork alone could be more than $15K if you use Japanese tuner parts and show-quality paint. For a $3-5K budget you are looking at an ordinary daily driver or an undrivable project car that somebody unloads for cheap. I recommend that you find a decent mostly-stock TII, spend a little time and money on reliability repairs while you are on leave, and then add the performance and dress-up items later when you have more time and money.

truth...just for the record though, i did do a t2 swap into a vert in about 30 days. im just sayin...but didnt have to wait on parts really...

okay lets adjust the perameters a bit. lets say 250hp. (doable with bolt ons and s5 turbo)
so say i pick up a car thats got a half decent exterior but needs a rebuilt engine. i dropped about 2k on my last motor with ceramic housings and whatnot. any suggestions for reliability mods? besides the usual like solid corner seals, 93 cornder seal springs or a new FPD. im thinking at a min. i want to remove the emissions while at the same time replaceing the fuel delivery system. how much can will it cost to replace with SSB lines, walbro, FPD, and FPR? brands?

and im going to be painting it myself i have a compressor and whatnot. the whole reason im asking these questions is becuase ive been out of the game for some time and diddnt know if prices in the rx7 market have changed....i saw this red fc with nice *** wide body, perfect paint, and blown engine for 3.5k seems like a good deal

OT: Where you at in Afghanistan? I am deployed there currently as well...

I agree with EA, a stock car that you mod yourself is MUCH more satisfying in my opinion.

buy my car. doesn't have everything you're wanting (has way more than it looks like you want), but it's not complete so you could totally add on that aero stuff.
