Question Ignition blown fuse

MY 87' GXL crapped out while driving one morning, it was like someone just turned off the switch. I found a 40 AMP fuse EGI/INJ ? blown replaced and it blew imediantly when i turned the switch to the on position. what is the problem i'm new at this game so keep it simple if this such a thing

yup.. i agree.. Have you made any adjusments or repairs lately where a wire may have gotten crimped, knocked, or left touching metal?

I found the problem. Shorted wire routed from the electric fan under the battery along the wheel well ending in a splice into a wire beside the master cylinder. I don't think it was factory so my case might not help anyone else, but thanks for the responses.
