Ignition

Hello All, I would be very much obliged if you can help me with this problem. I have tried searching and have not been able to resolve this issue. I have a 1988 vert, completely stock, that has been in storage for a year now. After starting her up, the idle was horrible, so after fiddling around with it I found that two of the spark plugs died (both plugs on the #2 rotor). I tested these the fast and dangerous way (not wise but it works) by taking the plug out and holding it against ground while someone turned the engine. So I replaced all four plugs and started the car. Using an inductive timing light, it seems that current is flowing through all wires initially. However, later after starting the car up again and testing again with the inductive light, the wires for the plugs for rotor #2 had no current, and upon testing for spark there was none. The plugs, however, still look brand new for they were only used for an hour. I would very much appreciate your input. Thank you.

Sounds like you need to check all the wires and connections from the coil packs to the spark plugs....I don't think there is a failure one each one of the coil packs themselves....sounds like a wiring issue....check the resistance and continuity of those two spark plug wires first...then on to the other connections...

check the coil and it still looks good according to the manual, and I tested by using a good spark plug to see if there is spark and there is. I have been thinking and I am wondering if this could be the result of a bad mixture that would cause pre-ignition or detonation in rotor #2; would something like that damage spark plugs that quickly without any sign of fowling? The engine seems to pulsate during idle--or what ever that is left of idling. Also, following up on the smell of fuel vapor in the engine bay, there is liquid fuel present in the hose going into the charcoal canister. The check and cut valve under the car near the fuel tank is in good working order.
