If you've ever pulled/shipped an engine, look here!

I need to pull my engine and sell it...its an S5 NA.
I was wondering if its possible to remove the engine without using a hoist, since it's smaller than most. Possibly me and two other people lifting it out? And as far as securing/shipping the engine, I'm totally lost here, any help/advice would be great.

(its an s5 na stage 2 streetport if you were interested, but i'll make another detailed sale post in the f/s section)

#1. With some chain, a good 4x4 post, and 2 friends, you can lift that motor.

#2. The shipping companies I have used allowed me to just strap the motor to a pallet. So I just find some cheap straps and strap it down (Empty of course). Then I wrap the motor with shrink wrap. Easy as pie...

Likewise... My room mate and i pulled his TII motor with a 2x4 and a small chain. Reccomend a 4x4 though, the 2x4 bowed a little more than i liked.

strap it to a solid pallet. I usually pull the oil pan and pick-up so it sits flush to the pallet. I put the engine in a 5ml 55 gallon trash can liner so what ever drops of fluid fall out do not rasie a hazmat question with the carrier. You should have to pay only the mini rate as your shipment is under 500 lbs. I forgot the actual class.

you could always rent a hoist. But if you're up to it...YES it can be done with some 4x4's. Easier if you seperate the tranny, and drain the fluids. It's an obvious thing. Some forget.

Don't use a Hoyer lift (from a medical company) or at least use a heavy duty one. I found out the hard way and messed one up.

Have you already sold it? How much are you asking for it? Curious minds (ie me) want to know

I've removed one with the A/C, P/S, and LIM still attached by hand, by myself. I bought a spare blown engine and had to get it out of the car to take it home, had no one to help me. With a goo deal of effort I was able to get it out of the car and put it in the passenger side of my car (with passenger seat removed). Nothing strained, nothing pulled. It can be done. And in case you're wondering I'm about 5'7" and was then 125 lbs.

Lol, that's what I'd say. I threw mine up from the floor to my workbench (shortblock) without too much trouble. Definatly not something I'd do every day, but it was manageable (6'0, 230lbs.)
