idle troubles

idle troubles
im lost with rotary engines, but i got an rx7 anyways. Its an 1988 rx7 convertable and it wont idle steady, plus its idleing at about 500 rpms. now i dont know cars to well but i dont think thats good. any help on how i can get my car to idle higher and steadier, also how can i get more power out of it..... a 95 stock automatic mustang smoked me

ouch that sounds a bit low!
Theres an idle adjust screw on top of the intake, may have a cover on it, if you turn the screw anti-clockwise it will let more air go through at idle.. I think you are meant to recalibrate the TPS after this but I'm not sure... There could also be other things causing the problems.. I still don't completely understand it all yet, but welcome to the club and good luck!

In the factory service manual there is a good section on setting idle. As a start though do a search on idle problems. All RX7's have idle problems at one time or another. Also search on TPS setting and adjustment. For a lot of idle problems, properly setting the TPS and then going bac and adjusting the idle speed will be the fix. After that you might need to look for vacuum leaks. There's plenty of places on a rotary enging for vacuum leaks to occur and any one of them will play hell with a good idle.

driving the car today, same problems
well, alittle more about the car. today after work, started the car, idle was good at about 1000rpm, then it dropped back down to about 500 again.........could you have a photo of where all these different ***** and things are?
