Idle and RPM I need help!

I posted another problem before and found I had a frayed end of a hose that goes into the fuel pump SO that is fixed but the oriiginal problem is not. I have 1990 RX-7 GXL.

When it get hot outside it will run for 30 seconds JUST fine and then will not go over 1500 RPM when you push the petal in. You shut the car off and back on it will run for 30 seconds and do the same thing.

Now at idle it runs perfect but you just can not get over 1500 RPM and also it will not pull the car.

I have buddy that works at a Mercedes dealer that said it was the Fuel Pressure Regulator BUt I was not sure RX-7's had one. Any idea's to help?

OH and it has a stong odor in the exhaust which make me think it is running rich.

Before assuming it is the fuel pressure regulator, you need to test it. FPRs rarely fail in this application.

Does the engine run rough? Smoke out the exhaust (and what colour?)? What happens when you try to rev over 1500RPM? Have you pulled trouble codes? Checked for vacuum leaks? TPS adjusted?

The engine runs fine. And no smoke.

when you tryand rev is over it bounces between 750 and 1500 and will never go over. When driving it will simply go to idle and you have no drive any more. BUT when it is cool outside it runs just fine.

I have not pulled the codes yet.
No vacuum leaks
TPS? what is that?

Do you have a factory service manual? If not, download a copy from the links listed in the FAQ.

If you don't know what the TPS is, you might consider taking the car to reputable mechanic.
