Idle Question(TPS The Culprit?)

My car idles at 1500 rpm normally. Over the past few months it has developed sort of a hunting thing. It jumps from 1500 to about 1800 then back down to 1500 then back up etc. Would Adjusting my TPS fix this, or is this another issue? I have an 87 base.
Thanks
-Ian.

Your TPS is probably fried. My car had a fried TPS and thats exactly what it does, will not wanna hold a solid idle and then idles at 1500rpm etc etc. Try setting it, if its truly fried you will not be able to set it properly at all.

i had this same problem, so i set my tps with the testing lights, but the car acts up when it is properly adjusted. (the idle still stays high, and the engine sounds/feels like it's stumbling in a repetitive motion) However, when I tighten the screw about a half turn past when it's adjusted, then the engine won't stumble, but obviously my rpms are still stuck at 1500. Does this mean I need a new TPS?

Its a REALLY common problem so yeah they are probably toast. Just find a used one that still works, should not be to costly for a used one. Mazda charges an arm and a leg for them brand new though so unless you got some cash kickin around go used.
