idle probs with ac on..maybe a fix?

my 89 vert idles great..but when the ac is on it sometimes idles good and sometimes idles poor. sometimes im at a light and its smooth then bam it drops. ive noticed evertime the idle goes to **** i hear a click(relay clicking) from the logicon area. idles good.....click...idle drops..???always in that order!!

anyone else notice? does the logicon have a relay that controls idle speeding up when ac is on? when ac is on and idle goes to shiot..if i give her a little gas or put her in nuetral(auto tranny) the idle is immediately perfect.

ive always kinda thought that the problem was because my engine is a streetport(from pettit not a do it your selfer) and id have to live with it but after experiencing the cold solder fixes, and replacing my wiper relay to get the wipers back, i thought there might be a chance it could be of the same nature. i couldnt find any write-ups on this so i thought id throw my awareness and experiences out there to see if its a pattern.

please let me know if this sounds like your car

thx

bauer

Idle-up for the A/C is controlled by the BAC valve, which admits extra air to the engine to compensate for the higher load of the A/C compressor. When the A/C is switched on, the compressor's not actually engaged all the time, but cycles on and off to maintain a set off-coil temperature. That's why it idles okay and then stumbles as the compressor kick in. Here's a how-to on cleaning the BAC valve. Easy job.
