Idle problem.....sort of fixed....

Its a 87 TII w/ FCD, turbo back exhaust and a BOV...

Well I have had a bad idle problem recently. Basically it would idle at 1500rpms, and may one out 20 times it would idle around 1K.

Anways now it is at 900rpms with nothing on, and about 800-850 with lights heater and turning the wheel, drops a bit then come back..

I cleaned the BAC and TRIED to adjust the TPS, not sure if I am doing it correctly. The bac valve is screwed in all the way, which brought it to the 900 rpm idle, its a BIG imporovemet, but Idon't think the BAC is meant to be closed complettly..

Now to the TPS, after doing the warm up and removing etc etc, I took the clip off and put the ohm meter (looking at the unplugged connector inside) positive to the the bottom (single) conector, and the negative to the top left connector. And truning the screw till it hits .95-1.05. (had to turn it towrds the front of the car about 3 complete turns) I had to do it a few times and it seems to be pretty close, goong to check it a few more times tomorrow...( I hope I didn't screw anything up)

Is this procedure correct??

What am I doing wrong that the idle is still high? And I can't lower it cause the BAC is completly closed. My friend has a S5 NA and he had adjusted the throttle cable and linkage, sounds like I may need to do the same...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW what does the tps exactly do? And does it really have any thing to do with the idle?

Well I guess I did do something wrong......

Ok well, I was coming home from work and I started the car, and it was idleing very bad at start up fluctuating from 1300-1800rpms, tapped the gas to hit 2000 and stayed there til it was warming up and came down.

Then I was trying to make a pass, I was going slow in 3rd about 2000rpms, while still rolling slower. Shifted to 2nd and reved to no more than 3k and shifted to 3rd and heard a pop/bang as I got back on the gas and it was jerking REAL BAD!!! I though the car was going to fall apart. It would barely accelerate (felt like a dead clutch, jerking) So I drove it like that for maybe a 1/4 of a mile and then I was about to pull it over safely and the car immediatly died.......

I tried to start it again and would turn over fine but not catch, I think I blew a seal... Still need to check the compression and stuff..

Could it be something it the TPS?
