NV Idle issues

since i have owned my 88 vert the idle issues have been rediculous. tried setting the tps numerous times only resulting in getting rid of the surging. last night i had help from a local guy who has 3 fcs and seemed pretty knowledgable. started by retiming it. brought the idle down from 1,500 to 1,000 to what he said is the correct timing but its almost fully retarded and i dont think timing has ever been changed since it still had the factory plastic clip over the nut and the whole unit was practically seezed in the block. after that he fine tuned the idle down to 850 rpms with the fast adle cam screw. all seemed well and we stopped working on it. car completely cooled down and when i went to leave car fired straight up and idled perfectly. however after my short drive home my car was idling back at 1,500 rpms. i also know that the adjustment screw on the air flow meter has been uncapped and it is tightened all the way down as well as the adjustment screw in the throttle body is also tightened all they way down and loosening them only makes the idle higher

also car seems pretty slow since the timing readjustment.

mods to the car are only racing beat road race header straight piped to fart cans, cone filter + adapter and emissions blocked off.

One thing about setting the TPS is it will have little affect if any when the idle speed is too high. When the idle is too high try pressing upwards on the throttle linkage found at the front of the throttle body to see if this has any affect in lowering the idle. If it does then obviously something is keeping them open too much like a maladjusted throttle cable, cruise control cable or stuck throttle plates resulting from carbon build up within the throttle body to name a few. There is also a throttle stop screw which might not be in the proper position as well.

thank you satch, i know the tps doesnt do much to the idle speed but i felt it necessary to say before i get "adjust your tps, idiot" comments. i pushed upwards on the throttle linkage like you suggested and it corrected my idle, i almost feel stupid for not trying that sooner. i only took a quick look and didnt see the throttle stop screw you mentioned but i will take a better look soon. is there a type of lube you would suggest and where should i lubricate on the linkage? just wondering if i should take the time and lubricate the internals of it.

also here are pictures of my crank angle sensor, first is before re-timing it and second is current.

im posting these pics because i am concerned about how it was retimed. i have personally never timed a car but this guy assured me this is correct. since being almost fully retarded my car seems super sluggish throughout the entire rpm range.
