idle drops with a/c, brakes-is it most likely BAC? Can I clean without removing?
Adjusted TPS, idle, a/c will almost stall car. Noticed brakes lower the idle also. If this is BAC is there anyway to clean without removing? Thanks

i think you have to remove it to clean it...from what i remember, it's got 3 openings, 2 for coolant, 1 for air. the main air one is facing the engine, so you can't get at it without pulling it off.
i have no idea how to clean those things though...

You have to remove it to clean it, it has two hoses going through it that are coolant hoses, then one opening going into the engine, and one hose coming off your intake snorkel. Removing it is really easy. On a series 5 its two nuts and it pops right off. Then you just get a can of carb cleaner and spray the crap out of the opening that goes to the engine. When you look into that opening you should see a little plastic tube that looks like an acordian. Youll know what im talking about it if you take it off

Also, really easy way to test if its working or not, turn on your a/c, then unplug the BAC, if your car dies its working. If not, try to clean it, see if that helps. If it doesnt help its probably bad.

So its really the opening into the engine that needs to be cleaned not the BAC value opening? Or both? Do I need to drain the anti freeze to remove? Thanks again.

No, you should not have to completly drain the antifreeze... while removed the BAC you will only drop a minimal amount of coolant (as long as the system isnt pressurized) IE: do it when the car is cold...
Remove it.. it's pretty strait forward, than clean the sucker, also clean any electrical contacts associated with it. Your idle should be a little better when it's all said and done.

when you say re-route the lines how do you mean? like lets say you have the TB mod done, and have no AC, and you want to completly rid of all extra coolant hoses around the TB area... what would have to be done

Well some people just cap the plces where the hoses hook up to. One guy I talk to has bolts in there. I would rather just run the hose straight from the back of the engine to the water pump housing. Currently I have no BAC so instead of going around the UIM I routed the hose under it after the thermowax and to the housing.

The coolant does NOT go through the BAC. The two screws that hold the plate to the BAC can be removed and the coolant lines can be moved so you can remove the BAC. All that plate does is help route the coolant, it has NOTHING to do with the BAC. Once those lines are out of the way, REMOVE the BAC and clean it correctly. This allows you to remove the BAC without opening ANY coolant lines.

I don't think anyone knows why that coolant line is attached to the BAC, but the two will screws remove it without opening the coolant circuit.
I do know that the sharp bend that circuit makes under the intake is a common failure point.

1987rx7guy - On the series 5 cars there are two hoses that run off the intake snorkel, one of them goes to the BAC I believe, but now that you said something Im second guessing myself because I havent had my car in almost 4 months now and the engine bay is kinda hazy Ill remedy this soon. Im selling the Trans am and getting another s5 n/a.

Just cleaned out my BAC valve today and its really simple
just follow this sites directions
