Question Idle bounce!

A couple of days ago the car made this strange behavior. I was starting to drop the clutch(easily) and when I press the gas pedal, the idle start to bounce from 1000 RPM to 2000-2500RPM. THIs bouncing keep going when you press the gas, doesn't matter if it was flooring it or just a little. Then I shut down the car and restarted it, the problem was gone. Like if nothing had happen.
After that insident, about 2 days latter, in a red light. When the light change and started to move the idle start to bounce once again. What I did? I shut it down and restarted quickly and the problem was gone again.
I asked a friend of mine and told me that it might be a damage coolant sensor???? BUt I not convince at all come here and ask you my RX-7 friendS. What, which, who were when is the cause of this idle bounce.

sounds like a BAC valve or the TPS sensor.

update info on the bouncing idle, it still doing it. I adjusted the TPS (w/ the 2 light thing); the green light was on all the time, w/ the engine warm.
Some days ago, I was in the shopping mall, it was a hot day, and the car start to make the bouncing idle thing, aprox 10 second after starting it, the engine was warm(the gauge was in the middle). I pull over, open the hood and check the setting of the TPS, both light where on(red + Green) I start to try to adjust it, w/ no change in the lights(both ON). I look close and I see that the TPS, especially the front one (short range?) wasn't touching the metal part(the one that adjust). Then a start to accelerate the car directly in the engine bay an notice that it wasn't sticking out, the idle bounce when i did this. I go, and turn off the engine. Then turn it on and the problem was gone.
Later (about 30 min) when I got home, I open the hood and check the TPS adjustment, was green. I press the front sensor in, then it doesn't come out, I get in the car and the "check engine light" was ON. It was blinking like crazy(without a pattern), i accelerate the car and there wasn't any bouncing, there was some farting. Then I turn off the engine, wait about 10 second and turn it on. The TPS was stiking out again with out a problem and the engine check light was OFF. What can it be? The TPS has pass to a better life(semi-dead)? The mech in front off my home told me that he think that the problem is in the TPS. PLEASE HELP!!

Its just what you saw. The tps plunger is sticking. I've seen that same thing on the only bad tps I ever had. Somthing internal to the tps is sticking. Might try something from RadioShack to spray into it. Might help. No rocket science involved here.

I have the same prob. but I idle at 1500 all the time!
The TPS is set perfect but I havent checked for the plunger sticking. What would be the best way to clean it without damaging it?

And would this cause my idle to say at 1500 all the time like that?

I spray (Drowned!) the TPS w/ WD-40, what do you think? Would it work? if not, give me the name of a good product.

First off, don't try and adjust the TPS with the car running - the lights don't work with the engine running, just with the key in the On position.

With regards to the 1500 RPM idle, that's most likely a stuck thermowax on the throttle body or a poorly adjusted throttle cable.

GTUsGUY, I would also test your TPS - it might be going bad, and all the adjusting in the world can't fix that. Use the search and look through - this is a really common problem, and it's typically a topic that's beaten to death.

don't use wd-40 on an electrical part! use contact cleaner from radio shack or something similar. and use compressed air (in the bottle) to clean it out. if the plunger is just sticking this should fix your problem. wd-40 might work temporarily but it will fail soon it's not a good lubricant and it actually dries out your parts.

I did the search, but didn't found to much thread that help. I just wanted to know if there was an option before I go and spend $300+ in a new TPS.

I will try the contact cleaner and the compress air can and see what happen, will keep you informed.

One question: IS true that the car will work with the TPS disconnected? I read it in someplace. I ask just in case of an emergency.
