Idle?

Hey guys, when I first got my 87 TII, the guy that had it, had it idling at around 1600. The car also needed a water pump, oil pan gasket and just realized that needs the gasket to the oil filter housing. Anyway, he said he had it high because of the oil pan gasket. Which I find hard to believe. But then I found my car suddenly dying on me after warm up. Well I found out that the throttle cable was loose, so I tightened it and saw another line there that was loose as well, that looks like the throttle cable as well. Anyway, I tightened them and the idle went up to about 2,200. So I loosened them and adjusted them as much as I believe I can. LOL! I also messed with the idle screw and now I got it to idle at about 1,400. Any suggestions? What does your car idle at?

That other throttle cable is for the cruise control. Normal idle should be at about 750rpms. I hope you have fixed the water pump and the oil gasket by now. If anything idling high would put more strain on that gasket due to the higher pressure. It sounds like you should be leaking oil EVERYWHERE. Not good.

Yep! First thing I did when I got the car was the water pump and oil pan gasket. So that is all fixed. Now I wanna fix the idle problem... I guess I just have to mess with that throttle cable some more along with the idle screw???
