Idiot Lights don't go out

Hi Folks,

when I start my car, the Idiot Lights don't go out like they used to. But when I rev. the engine to above 3.500 they do go out. But on lower rev. the CPU buzzes with raising freq. when rev. rises too. Above 3000 its quiet. During idling it buzzes really loud and sometimes it suddenly stopes and the idiot lights go on again. I think it has to do with the "board-voltage" during lower rpm's but the instrument cluster shows normal voltage...
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Harry

Resoldering all the connections behind the idiot lights might solve the problem. Usually when all the idiot lights go on it means something is wrong with your alternator or the car stalls.

Well, my alternator failed one year ago (uncharged batterie overnight). Changed it (with used one), so don't think its that again, because batterie holds charge. Engine runs normal (even with idiot lights on). Resoldered them years ago, because of common known problem...

Well if you already resoldered them I suppose it could be a faulty idiot cluster or maybe your ecu needs resoldering also?

definately sounds alternator / charging system related. as you rev the car the alternator develops enough current, and so the lights go out.

Wow, at least you idiot cluster does something. Mine hasn't worked since I got the car 6 months ago. It does sound like something realting to the charging system, though. My friend had something similar happen to his s5 NA.

your alternator is going bad. you need to replace it.

When the idiot lights light up, it means the car is running off the battery, instead of the alternator, which is not a good thing since it is discharging the battery.
