idel and red line problem: please help

well i have a 87 t2 that i just bought a couple of months ago from a owner that said it was well maintained. well come to find out that the mechanics that worked on this car when he owened messed it all up so now im at ground zero and was wondering on whta the typical idel speed is for a t2. A friend of mine said it was around 1000 well im at 1600. The other thing is that when i first got it, it red lined at 7000. now after i put in some spark plugs andjus an oil change im red lining at 6, do you think this is a bad gap in the spark plugs or wires or coil. The last thing is that i already have taken care of the fuel flooding problem but now three months later i turn off my car and come back 10 miniutes later and it doesnt start up for aout 4 or 5 attepmts. do you think this might be the fuel pump or injectors. It runs alot richer now than it did before so im stumped. please help/

Sounds like your having all kinds of issues but you will get plenty of help here.

The normal idle is around 750 or so. That can be adjusted multiple ways depending on your motor setup.

The redline should be at 7000 and not 6 but honestly unsure why it would be doing that. The spark plugs you do not gap. If you remove one you will understand alittle more. They are not your normal plugs.

The flooding issue sounds like the typical hot start problem. That can be from vaccum leaks or leaky injectors. I would vote the injectors if you know it's running to rich but you might start with checking all your vaccum lines. It could be the injector o-rings as well.

Off subject but where in Texas are you located?
