Ideas on why the TPS goes out of adjustment?
What makes them change settings?
Is it Temp change related ?
Is the TPS just shot?
Next TPS question. If it won't adjust into range it is broken, correct? every got 3 bad ones in a row?
Just asking as these situations are on a Turbo car and a N/A.
Could anything else be wrong for the TPS to not go into range?
Everything is working, the cars run good, shitty mileage from the TPS out of range....
any ideas?
Thanks..

Give us an idea of what *out of range* is. Need figures. By the way, are you interested in selling one of the bad ones to me? I'm talking about series five tps, not series four. Thank you.

Well you won't tell if you have a series four or five. I assume a series five. HERE, right out of a '91 fsm, this is the way to set it. The only way. Forget about not owning the SST tool they refer to. Just get a meter and put the lead in the back of the wires indicated, OR put the meters lead in the back of the TPS PLUG. NOT the green check connector. Then read the voltages as stated in the manual. See the JPG below.

*****isn't +/- .25v a pretty wide amount of error?*****
What can I say? Its out of the Factory Service Manual for a 1991 model. I set my series four at one volt give or take 0.05 and forget about it. I've also set it where it showed 0.8 and up to 1.15 and never notice a difference from the one volt. And I do mine with the engine idling and fully HOT. My Series four manual says approx one volt with the engine idling, so I do it that way.

I'm curious to see if the variance set at idle can effect the maximum voltage available...

The cars are both S4s one is Turbo with slight mods and a N/A auto.
I am using the light setup sold by Mazda to adjust the TPS. I haven't tried the voltmeter yet, but Mazda told me the lights are mmore accurate, but I don't swallow that one.
This auto car will not allow any of the 3 TPS sensors to adjust into range. I was thinking somehting lese would cause this to happen.
The turbo car goes out of adjustment for no reason and then I am able to put it right back ihnot range and the turbo car runs great again.

I really have nothing agains the lights. Don't get me wrong. I prefer the meter because you leave everything connected up, just stick the positive lead in the back of the green/red wire on the TPS CONNECTOR. Not the green check connector. Don't mess with it. Put the negative lead on a good ground point. With the engine idling and fully HOT, adjust til the reading is one volt. Might rev the engine and let it idle again. Should still be one volt plus minus maybe 0.05 volts.
If you approach this car a half hour later, and check the voltage again, it might have increased due to the engine cooling down and the thermowax moving the linkage a bit. Depends on how cold the weather is.
If after setting the tps, your car jerks while driving, its possible the tps is corrupted inside and is intermittently opening the wiper circuit. But you tried three so I don't think so.
Off to work: Arbeit Mach Frei! That's the logo at the big airplane factory. Got barbwire and guards all around me.
