The idea of running only oil through the turbo.

I know alot of DSM guys are doing this, and my friend, who is one of those guys, is trying to convince me to do it. People running bigger turbos dont have coolant going through them do they? It doesent look like it in the pics I see of turbo upgrades. I get a coolant smelling smoke around my turbo, and the last time I took it off there was coolant sitting in my manifold. Any ideas?

Apart from the leakage of coolant from the turbo flanges,supply/return pipes or acracked cooling jacket, the most likely cause is leaking O rings in the lower intake manifold.
According to Mazda the difference in temperature of the turbo metal WITHOUT water cooling is 150C(or 300F) after ignition switch off.The purpose of course being to prevent oil deterioration.

Ok..... I seriosly doubt its the o-rings in the lower intake manifold, it replaced them once, when I installed my j-spec, and another time when I replaced the lower intake gasket because I forgot to tighten down the bolts from the engine install

also, whats your opinion about removing the coolant line?

Unless you run synthetic oil, removing coolant will result in carbonised oil in your turbo shortening shaft bearing/seal life.

I have never used it in my RX7s because I have to have catalysts on the cars and I am not interested in mixing oil with gas.I use synthetic oil in my other vehicles and it works great.

What about the oil metering pump? Should I let it inject synthetic? Or disable it and run premix? Or will syn work fine?
