yes i know i know its my decision. but i cant decide and its an emergency. so theres this 91 n/a coupe thats for sale. 168k-169k on chassis and ~70k on mazda reman. the reman, new rad, and master cylinder came with receipts but thats about it. the car drives fine and it feels solid cept for the clutch which feels a bit spongey. there is a dent ~ 1 sq ft large on the driver side fender and bumper (its actually in between the fender and bumper.. denting both) which was poorly repaired (looks like tons of bondo and spray paint which got on the side lense and tires also). minimum rust around the whole car. very little surface rust under body. a lil surface rust on passenger side door (inside the jam). the spoiler was peeling but he spray painted it and it got on the body also. everything works including the sunroof. comes with an Alpine headunit. he recently got the clutch master cylinder replaced but no receipts. the paint is in decent condition. no sunroof rust. every part of the car is stock. cant really tell if the suspension and bushings but it drives good. he never got anything else replace...

now the asking price is 2800 and hes pretty firm on it. i couldnt get him down to 2500... so i said forget it if hes not willing to lower the price. i thought it was a lil overpriced for a 91 n/a with 168k+ on the chassis with a reman with almost 70k. im still not 100% sure yet.. this guy seems to swear by KBB.. any suggestions? why or why wouldnt you get it?

edit: sorry, no pics.

edit 2: oh yeah its an emergency because he SAID hes moving tomorrow night to buffalo ny... dunno if its true but he said hes taking the car with him so he can sell it for more. which i doupt since buffalo gets pretty damn snowy in the winter and no one would want a rwd sports car there...

$1500 cash at most or pass. also, drivers side fenders (at least in my area) are a pain in the *** to find. especially S5 ones

New panels, body work, and paint can get expensive if you can't do it yourself...
New bumper and fender... plus paint to match (if you cant find the replacement parts in your color in your area) will put this car into the low to mid $3000's and then you still will probably have to do some other stupid maintenance on the car which will cost even more ontop of that. Unless you absolutely need a car ASAP than I would pass on this one.

Reasons were mentioned pretty much in your post, mileage, the fact that it's an N/A, and the damage to the body.

You can get nice N/A cars for < $2000 so there's no need to rush yourself into something that you have doubts about... The fact that you're even questioning yourself should say alot... After all it's what you think that matters right?

I would say pass. I know it is hard, very hard, to pass on a car you really want, but I drove 8 hours and passed one up, so you can pass this one up. I bought my 86 GXL for $2400 with NO rust, around 130,000 miles, in great condition outside and near mint inside. Guy had records of every bit of work, including oil changes since 1986 when the car was purchased. Only thing is the tranny is loud in 1st and 2nd. Was loud when I got it, still hadnt given me any problems, it shifts smooth as butter, just loud in them two gears.

Pass. I wouldn't trust anything thats been done to the car if he didn't bother taking the spoiler off to spray it.

It's like 4 nuts, taking it off is part of replacing the antenna.

found mine has none: surface or underbody... but needs a paint job.

edit: personally, i would pass unless there have been many other stock parts replaced. namely suspension and other rubber components.

never buy a car under pressure.

If it is a decent car, and the guy is not trying to hide anything then he can wait a day or two to sell it

I would pass for that price/condition, check the for sale lists here and on nopistons, or Craigs list in your area. I'm in Staten Island, NYC cars are usually not as good as others, I'd look in NJ to get a better car.

There's a '86 in PA that sounds decent on no pistons:
http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...howtopic=63712

If your are interested I'm also selling my '85 300ZX!

Come on up to Ontario, Ill show you my 87 TII

The worst thing to do when buing a car is to get excited about it. Trust me, Ive bought ones I regret...

IMHO, if its got parts you need and can use low ball him for what you want to spend and see if it goes. If not.........pass.

+ a jillion

sntp, what is the paint like other than the bondo **** and the re-sprayed wing? i think you should pass, thats a lot of miles on the body
i picked up my 91 base for $3.5k only because it was recently re-painted, no body damage, very very clean interior, and about 80k on the body and original motor.
