It does just that
It burns a "little" amount of oil each day.
If you can notice the oil dropping everyday then you probably have an oil leak somwhere. I notice mine go down if I only check it once a month, but I never even need to top it off, I change my oil every 1800 miles ish just because I love my car so much, and even at 3000 miles you would probably only need to top it off maybe once.
