I think thermostat problem
Hey guys, I have a minor concern about my coolant resevior levels and the thermostat.
My coolant resevior level is higher than the high point. It wasn't like that when I got my coolant flush and new thermostat. My temp is also rose from when i first got the flush and thermostat it is constantly inbetween 1/4 and 1/3 depending on how i drive. It leans more towards 1/3 if im going uphill (Like MAJOR uphill) and goes bellow 1/4 on dowhill (like SPEEDING down hill) I'm not sure what kind of thermostat the guy put on there so... the question is, can i conclude, with the evidence above, that my thermostat is a non-mazda oem thermostat?
Thanks for the response!

I'd say your cooling system is in perfect shape.
Refilling the cooling system will usually put in more coolant than you need. The extra will go to the reservoir. If it's a little above full, don't worry about it. Otherwise siphon out the extra.
You can ask the guy if he used an OEM thermostat. Even if he didn't you still should be in perfectly good shape for the days spent waiting for the OEM thermostat. Tell him the OEM thermostat is different from the aftermarket ones because of a simple feature, and that aftermarket thermostats will cause problems (ranging from running a little hot to possible eventual overheating). The OEM thermostat is probably better quality, too. Or if you can't get him to do it, do it yourself.

Oh yeah, it sounds like he used an aftermarket thermostat. I didn't see you say your car was running a little hotter than before the flush. I've seen about the same difference in temp between aftermarket and OEM. Unlike other cars, OEM doesn't work quite the same as aftermarket. There is a simple but major difference. Search for more info. I think the aftermarket is lower quality too, but that's not the only reason they're different.
Right now the temp difference is small and I wouldn't worry, but it'll get worse after not very long.
