i think my wideband has schizophrenia

i turned on my car and let it warm up, started to drive of and the thing started going back forth between 7 afr and 22 afr . the thing was like twitching! and i made a log and it looked like a rickter scale goin crazy off the charts. any one know what this mean?


its an lc-1 and im not getting any error codes

how close is the sensor to your exhaust? Is it in the stock O2 location, or did you have a bung welded on for it? I've heard that the stocker is a little hot for widebands. Maybe it's just gone kaput? Maybe you's got a wire loose? Does it seem like it's running a 7 in the AFR's with that rich a mixture you couldn't even drive!

oh no, the car isnt acting any different. i had a bung welded on a couple inches before the "cat". it was a little tight at top but has been running well for that past couple days. im going to pull the plug, do both recalibrations, and stick my hand under and see if i can feel any holes in the bung. doesnt sound like an exhaust leak tho. ill update in the morning/

Are you getting these numbers from a display gauge or from the laptop software?

Sounds like your car is running in closed loop when it should, and the air pump is doing it's job. Remember that it dumps air into the exhaust port and manifold through the ACV. At idle it should read full lean. Under cruise it should bounce back and forth. Under accel it should be rich. Under light load it will probably read full lean.

Make sure your blue wire is NOT spliced in with the white and green wire (some LC-1's do not have a green wire). The blue wire should be grounded separately from anything else, because it is the heater ground and can cause electrical noise if tied into the system ground (white wire) or analog ground (green wire). Also, any display gauge (either the XD-16 or the cheaper one they sell) should be grounded at the same location as the white and green wires.

oh one more thing. after you double check your wiring, perform a free air calibration again.

yeah, i waited 6 hours and did another free air calibration test and it fixed the problem.

As arghx mentioned, it is more then likely a calibration issue. Mine was doing the same thing as you mentioned, i fixed it today by doing a free air calibration. If it keeps happening, you probably have a grounding issure. For more information about this problem, go to innovatemotorsports.com, they have a forum that will help out alot.
