when you get back to the car .. pull the starter so it cannot ingage..with the atf/mmo fill bottom spark plug holes till full then, replace plugs then fill top plug holes till full let sit. be patient. (2 days) then put a breaker bar on the front hub and try to turn the engine over..( backwards from normal rotation). be gentle if it does turn make sure that you pull the exhaust manifold off and look in throught the ports at the apex seals to look for damage.. Do Not start or push start the car untill you know the apex seals are ok and intact ... other wise you could damage housings etc.. if no aval.. pull the motor. and have rebuilt.. there are many places including "I" that can do it for you, it all just depends on what you are willing to spend..... and what you want. or better yet get a j-spec TII and upgrade your car to handle it. i'm sure you'll like the extra power in you hands...

Honest question here:

How would I believe to do what astrochild said, if I can't even turn the motor as it is right now?

The ATF is in there.. and will be until monday. Tomorrow, if it does not rain... then we'll be taking out the starter and trying to push start her...

I'm just really hoping (and wishing quite frankly it is.... since everyone has said it sounds like it , by what i've been describing...) that the starter is jammed up in the flywheel and everything is -OK-.

I'm with astrochild. when my 87 GXL dies (172K miles so far) I'm going to do a TII conversion on it. If you get the money and time, you'd probably enjoy it even more after that. Of course, that does get expensive....

No TII swap with me, Too much money to invest.

At any rate, by the end of the year / next year... .i'll probably have it done by pineapple racing with a small street port (hopefully) .. but this is, of course if the engine is really gone.

Doing that tomorrow. Haven't had much time. Rain here is killing us. We finally pushed her into the garage.

One of the guys in my "night" classes at college mentioned to hit the starter, and it might jiggle the siloniod(sp?) back into place.. and be a bit easier to get the starter out.

At any rate, we're replacing the starter tomorrow reguardless.

I'll keep you guys updated.

One thing that has really gave me hope, and happiness:

Everyone i've talked to, between friends up to a automotive teacher - they said it's more than likely a starter jam (the way they said it in their voice sounded sure....) than a engine lock up.

I'll update everyone this week.

the majority of seized rotary engines is either due to carbon build up or a internal coolant seal leaking. I had a GTUs that was seized for good. not even INCREDIBLE HULK was breaking it loose. With the miles on your car I think she took her last breath.

Not hard.

I'd redline it every now and then (well every time i turned the car on.. from like in the mornings...)

and every once a month during autocrosses.

But I guess she was time to go. It had nearly 185k on it.

Christi,

Did it sound like a ballon popping and shake the car? If so, you will need a new engine. Use the ATF trick, but don't fill the chamber competely up, you just need enough to help the car turn over and fire. To much and you just have a flooded engine full of ATF that still won't turn over.

No shaking, that I could remember. All I heard was something "BAM" like noise, like a rotor decided to run into the housing.

The thing is, mostly everyone here confirmed (or was sure) about it being a starter jam - and we figured it out it wasn't because the starter came out smoothly.

We tried various attempts to start it manually, and it won't budge - at all. It was stiff.

I'm not sure how much my dad put ATF in the bottom spark plugs, but I don't believe it is alot. He said even if we tried to "start it up" again, that how can a starter do it's job, if we can not manually start it with the pully?

I've got a few RX-7 buddies around town to hopefully come by today and look at the engine, and give their prespective in this. Maybe they can dianosgize(sp) it better, and find a cure.

If not, yeah. rebuild. We're thinking of doing it ourselves at this point now. I've mentioned to my dad about Kevin Landers, as well. So - I'll keep you guys updated.
