I think I killed my fuel gauge

hey guys while installing my haltech on my 87 TII i hooked up the 12V for the fuel pump to the red cable that goes into the fuel tank. Yes im a dumbass!!! I removed it as soon as I had realized what I had done but now my fuel gauge doesnt work did I kill it permanently or is there anything I can do to fix it?

If I can guess..I would say that giving 12 volts to the Gauge is NOT good, since it reads the difference from the sender in What?Millivolts?..You May have fried the gauge...Strictly a guess Though Polito,Just a Guess.
