Angry I think I blew my turbo! :(

So I got my new boost controller in and wanted to install it. I do have a defi boost gauge so I could measure the psi. After installing the controller took it out for a drive. I floored it and the car spiked all the way up to 18psi. I immediately pulled over and turned the boost way down, I got the boost to sit at a constant 12-13psi. I did a 40 roll and went up to 4th gear, then all of a sudden I hear a boom.

Then white and blue smoke where pouring out from the exhaust, the engine basically acted like the time my turbo gasket went out and had no boost build up. I took the intake off and felt the compressor wheel and it does have a bit of movement too

The odd thing about it is that my down pipe now is blown(literally) it has holes in it closer to the turbo, i dont know what brand of downpipe it was came with my car,

I was wondering what everyones opinions are about this? let me know what you guys think or agree with me.

my opinion?

whenever you install a boost controller be sure to set it to 0 and then ramp up your boost.. be thankful the engine is one piece, of which hopefully it still is.

Would just compression testing it make sure that the engine is still ok? If it is bad on compression i guess its time to rebuild it! Maybe you could RotaryEvolution ahah, i need to get a compression tester to make sure its all good, i know that i was smoking out the neighborhood getting it back home though

You know, that could be a result of a serious afterburn, which can very easily blow the turbo to pieces.

This is exactly what I thought when I saw the picture, quite serious to have made such a gaping hole, too. If he's lucky it'll be cheap thin exhaust and won't have harmed the turbo, but OP will just have to inspect to find out.

Holy ****. Sounds like you blew the hotside turbine up.

Either a piece of the turbine caused that hole or a backfire actually exploded right there.

I've killed a S5 turbo at 15 psi once. Blew white smoke out back and wouldn't produce boost at all. I would floor it and the boost gauge wouldn't go out of vacuum.

ok guys i got the downpipe off today, took me 3-4 hours because the piping expanded over the bolts when the turbo blew. I had to to pry on the pipe and use breaker bars and all kinds of random tools to even get the freaking thing off. Well i got pictures now i took o picture of the hot side of the turbo under the car. I will take more pictures when the turbo is off. I am buying a turbo here soon so when that comes in i will swap turbos out.

But here is the pictures enjoy!!!

That is pretty epic. I've seen some blown up turbos before, but that one has to take the cake.

Here's an S4 turbo for sale. If your exhaust housing is still ok, then you can just swap them over.
