I think I blew the engine in my TII... :(

i don't really know what happened but I wasn't boosting the whole time on the highway except to pass a big truck. All of the sudden, the engine started vibrating really bad and I lost a major amount of power. I pulled over and checked the intake hoses and they all seemed fine. I kept the car running the whole time. I limped it home and shut it off. I haven't tried to start it again. Can you guys tell me what that could possibly be?

I tend to think that the engine is toast. I haven't compression tested it yet because it just happened.

Why must my rx be so disobedient??

How many miles do you have on the engine?

just pull off the trailing plugs and give it a quick audible compression test

well think simple, vac leak, injector stuck closed, afm etc. You can always do a compression test to rule out the engine.

I'm gonna try the ATF trick on it tomorrow. It may just be a stuck seal. I want to be sure before I put my car down for a long period of time. A rebuild was in the plans this summer but not this soon, lol....

I really don't want to sell it....so, I may buy a miata for a DD....until I get the TII done then I'll do something crazy to the miata....

We'll see...

OK....UPDATE

ATF trick failed. Revving a bit quicker and the idle was a little more stable but when I tried to drive it, it still did the same ol thing.

I do believe that it may be rebuild time.

UPDATE: Part II

So, I tried the atf trick again today. Put a little more in and left it in for a little bit longer. Fired it up, started fine. It still has mass amounts of hesitation so I ran some carb cleaner into the UIM. about 3/4 of a can to be exact. The carb cleaner only did one thing. help me pinpoint a gasket leak at the LIM.

So.

Is it unanimous? Rebuild?

or should I cut my losses and sell the car

rebuild, just to bad you didn't rebuild it before it poped a seal because now you have to worry about bad housings etc...

ever do the compression check like i told you to?

there is far too many things that can cause an engine to run like crap, i try to never assume anything until i have something to judge by.

I'm gonna do a comp check this weekend to be sure. A friend of mine has a comp tester that he'll let me borrow...i just have to go get it. If it is 100% done, then you'll be hearing from me really soon Karack!

Well, regardless of whether the engine is good or not, it's REBUILD TIME!
