Gear oil doesn't have to deal with coolant or combustion gases. Motor oil does.
Gear oil doesn't have to deal with viscious temperature swings that engines have.
Motor oils work best "under pressure".
Gears oils usually work with "swimming or splash" lubrication.
It all goes back to the "use the right fluid for the specific job".

I just wanted to update you guys. The tranny feels a little better today. The shifting is a little bit smoother now but still notchy and still grinds on third. I had to hold down the clutch pedal though to get into third without grinding.
So I decided not to change the oil and wait for another week because maybe it just needs a break in. We'll see.... wish me luck!
