check the water pump, there is a weep hole at the bottom of the front housing, behind the pulley; start the car and if water is seeping out of this hole that is a sign of water pump failure. Not expensive, easy to replace. But you should be losing a little coolant if that is the case, obviously. As for the idle, try adjusting /checking your TPS, and check the AFM. This is all pretty typical info, search search search.

Did you bleed the air out of the coolant?

Warm up engine with the water outlet cap off so the bubbles can escape. Loosen the air bleed on the rad inlet and let air out. See FSM in my sig.

Did you use a Mazda thermostat, thermostat cover rad cap, and rad cap (not on some cars)? Did the thermostat have a jiggle pin/valve? Was it oriented the same way as removed? Did the engine overheat before all this work? Is the fan clutch providing resistance between the pulley and fan when hot? Yes, a lot of questions...oh, was the heater on hot when you changed/added coolant? Leaks? Coolant smell in exhaust?

FSM in my sig. Don't remember how useful the cooling chapter is, though.
