I might be joining the RX-7 crowd....

I've recently lost my MR2 to a tragic accident. Problem is, I'd go back to the MR2 addiction if only the parents would let me. So now it seems that I have to get another car. I have a few options as I want a Sport compact import with RWD or AWD under $5000. That leaves me with 240sx, Miata, RX-7, or AE86 corolla and the GSX which is waaay to much for it's actual worth.

So I narrowed my choices down to either buying a 240sx and either dropping an SR20DET or just turboing the 2.4 liter KA24DE. OR Buy an 89-92 RX-7 and dropping/rebuilding the TII motor in there.

Now you know my story, maybe you can help me. If I found a RX-7 shell, what would I need to get a TII engine running and lasting me a long while assuming I take the proper precautions in taking care of it?

Your best bet would be to buy a TII thats running. It could get expensive piecing together a car. If your just needing an engine go with a j-spec. inexpensive and most people have good luck with them.

Or find a blown TII:

500-1000 chassis
6-800 pull the tranny, have it rebuilt
150 new mounts and such
2-3000 new motor

Now there's a solid reliable drivetrain...build up from there.

Lowest around 1000...highest (ALL new parts around 4.5-5K)...

A GOOD rebuild from Pineapple runs around the 3000 mark.

What new toys? Depends on the year that your starting out with as to how much work you'd have to do.

You should be able to get to the low 13s using the stock turbo...I/E/fuel/control for fuel...
