depending on the condition of the car, you might regret the decision on the 7 in the very beginning, but in the long run, its a phenominal car once you get it all working right! much better than 5.0

I personally love Mustang's-but to think of a 16 year old behind the wheel of one, kinda scares me. I think at your age, you should go for the RX7-in a few years, when you have experiance driving, then think about getting a V-8 or a turbo'd RX-7. Just my $.02

Get the RX-7 that way at the beginning of the school year when the teacher has everyone stand up and say something about themself you can say My wankel is bigger than your wankel That was always WAAAAAY to fun for school, got lots of funny looks until I explained what I just said.

I think you should go with the 7. Mustangs are pretty cool but they seem to be everywhere. Im not sure about where your from, but I can go weeks in my city without seeing a single 7. There are alot of little problems with 7's, but most of them are very simple fixes. Just make sure the guy that has it didnt rag on it really bad. Check the compression and post the numbers and if they are good, GO WITH THE 7!!

A non turbo FC is not too much of a car for a 16 to drive if he's somewhat responsible with it. It's not like it's a rocket ship or something, but then again I don't know what kind of mods has been performed either, maybe you should look into that?

I think I'm addicted
Like any good sports car, it needs to be taken care of
so those things u heard about RX-7s and how hard they are to maintain are just people who don't know them well enough....
and well like i've read a few threads before, its not likely that people post how COOL and great their cars are often... most of the time on internet forums u find people with problems... and with the RX7club... one of the largest car communities around....u'll see more problems than praise
but like u see here, once u post, everyone agrees and recommends the RX-7, if we don't stand behind our cars, then we shouldn't be in RX-7 club anyways ^___^
but trust me, if u are that "type" of person, who likes things unique and aren't afraid of getting your hands dirty, go with the RX-7

You should look for a nice low miled stock n/a 7. My first 7 was a 88 gxl. I had that for almost 2 years and then I got a turbo 2. It's more fun starting stock because you can do the work and mods yourself instead of someone already doing it for you. Sort of like buying a model already built instead of doing it yourself. Also, don't just buy your first car for speed and power or anything. Wait til you start driving for a while then decide.

Having owned both, I can say without a doubt get the RX-7. I admit the mustang was fun. It felt like it was much faster due to the low end torque, but it really wasnt that much faster. A lightly modded turbo could beat it easy.
Now for the handling - it sucked. It was very hard to control and unpredictable. You'd be driving it on a back road and all the sudden you were facing the other way on the side of the raod. If you invested a ton of money in a nice suspention and tires, you could make it handle almost as well as a stock rx-7.
As far as reliability, I have had far less problems with the 7 than the mustang, and they are a lot harder to fix on the mustang.
So basically, unless you want a pure drag car, go with the rx-7.
