i'm trying to clean the inside of the intake manifolds. i don't know whether it's dirt, or oil, or a mix of that, but it's not as simple as spraying some degreaser in there and wiping it away, and my wire brush doesn't reach far at all

i'll post pics once i find my camera...now im wondering where i put it :/

it sounds like you already have it out of the car

if so you can put it in a bucket and fill it with one of those very strong automotive degreaser/cleaners

let it soak for a day or two then pull it out, and rinse it off. good to go

Simple. I just cleaned a UIM and LIM the other day. Get carb cleaner, lots of it. Get the 1 gallon container as well. Soak it in carb cleaner, rinses right off. Takes just a few minutes. No scrubbing necessary. Of course, the manifolds need to be off the car.

Thanks aznpoopy and sccaits, I was wondering if that would work. I'll give that a shot.

Here's what the inside looks like...

Sandblaster on the outside, clean, clear anodizing at the end? What do you guys/gals think? I need to clean some parts too.

On the inside, I'd start with carb cleaner, then see what's left.

i would go sandblaster, paulo, but i don't have access to that (and this method only cost me $10 for the wire wheel but, of course, that doesn't really get to the hard to reach areas that are too small for the wire wheel). is sandblasting cheaper than i think and more readily available? if so, i might try that route

It's the hard to reach spots that will screw one up. I've done other things like this before (and wire wheels are a favourite), but then it's a **** off to see the clean bit areas and the dirty little corners. Someone nearby should be able to let you use their sandblaster or do a ten minute job on them.

It's on my list of things to do along with installing my own laser cut block off plates and my machined aux. port inserts (a la pineapple racing).
