I know this is a stupid question

Alright guys try not to laugh too hard but what type of oil do I need to use for my 88 GXL. The old said he was using 20w-40 which seems odd but advance auto says to use 5w-30 but I don't always trust them. I just bought this RX-7 and got a steal on it. No problems or noise. Friends of mine have owned them in the past I am just not sure on the little stuff. Any help I can get I would love and appreciate. Thanks.

not sure about 88 but I know the 87 says 5w-30 for starting ranged of zero degrees and under, 10w-30 for starting rand from zero to 60 (I think zero not sure on start of that one) and 10w-40 over that

I went to the FAQ, hit CTRL-F for "Find" in my browser, and typed in "oil". I then found this link to the oil section of the FAQ:
