i just got a GTUs

This car is so fun to drive. Its clean inside and out. LOVE taking U turn in this car. shift to first push as to the floor turn release gas and tap tap tap all that the same time counter steer. The tail just wippes around then *POP* all of a sudden im goin in the other direction.

I go road racing a lot and i keep up with my friends WRX which i love because this car handles so much better then his.

DAMN im so happy cant wait until i get my turbo motor. Not sure if i want to if i want to build and get a supercharger or a double ball bearing garrett turbo. I might just go with the supercharger because the roads i race on have no straight aways and mostly hair pin turns and with a supercharger ill always have the power.

but yah just want to tell everyone about my GTUs
I'll have pictures up in a bit.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum.

Might want to read the FAQ about forced induction on NA cars. They really aren't designed for it... the motor and the driveline are TOTALLY different in the factory turbo cars.

Enjoy the car though.

Sounds like the one i was going to get but I wasn't going to fork over 4900 bucks even with what it had, I changed my mind about 3 days before I was going to buy it. New "1200" dollar paint job, Tint Job, Bucket seats, Rebuild with a odd compression. Great looking clean car never the less. Did he tell you about the 5th gear synchro or clutch fork problem? The broken lock? Rust in the cooling system? I would of bought it for 4500.

If its the one I'm thinking of it already has a new motor. Personally I'd just keep it NA.

No real difference between $4500 and $4900 in the grand scheme of things.

welcome to the GTUs club. I got a black 89 GTUs too. :-)

no need to get the turbo motor. you are adding more weight to GTUS, which was designed to be the lightest for 89-91 model. just do some other mods, and you will have a great reliable car. at least, that is what I plan to do. turbo housing, street port engine, header, blah, blah,... you name it. I bet it will be really fast.

Just pull the A/C & power steering (if applicable) and you make up for the added 'weight', or go on a diet.

Yo,

Congrats! Sounds like Genshie's GTUs. I was parked next to him at Sevenstock 6. Very nice car, good price for all the new stuff in it.

Sounds like some sour grapes from Andy, but his loss.

I would stay NA until you think you've mastered the car, especially since the turbo to NA swap is a PITA and the car has a newly rebuilt motor.

If you wanted a turbo car, I would have gotten a TII.

Welcome to the club!

I was gonig to say... weren't there only a handful made? If so I wouldn't change a thing.

I bought my S5 TII in pieces but with its low mileage (50,200) and good engine bay paint, I thought I might restore it to stone stock and keep the miles off of it. I did change my mind (stock is no fun and an S5 TII is not RARE rare.. like a GTUs is) but I am wondering if maybe you wouldn't consider keeping yours stock if indeed there were only 200 or so made.

Also I was under the impression that GTUs already had the Turbo II tranny, diff, and all that.. basically a TII with no turbo or turbo motor..

And it's not like these cars have a resale value.... What was bluebook on a GTUs last time I checked, well under $3k for excellent condition?

It has a N/A trans, n/a driveshalft, n/a diff, and n/a half-shafts. The only thing special about the driveline is the tII 5th gear and the 4.3 rear-end.

Bluebook means nothing, obviously this car sold for more than that. It also sold for even more the first time. If the AC and Powersteering were disconnected I'm sure it would have gone for less.

It sold for more than that because it wasn't stock. Regardless, having no A/C and no PS surely doesn't make it a 'race car' or 'horrible' to drive. But then again, it depends on who you sell it to, most people aren't going to care much except for A/C if they're in the southern regions. Regardless, the car will sell for the same price, with or without the a/c & powersteering. It just won't go to any old skinny people. But anyway, I wasn't even being serious about the post. I was compating the reply about how a turbo adds too much weight and ruins the performance/etc. Can't say A/C doesn't do the same! Wasn't quite being serious, but oh well.
