For the past 6 months I've been going Rx7-nuts... Buying turbo's, engines, wrecked cars and picking up random deals left and right. Basically all for the sake of making a buck and creating a hobby and a form of transportation that I can enjoy. The problem is; I work full time and have been devoting every minute of spare-time to working on these vehicles... Today I made an important decision though, that I think will help alleviate some of the stress I've felt lately because of all this "cramming".
I decided to STOP building my Turbo II and simply eliminate the most unnecessary project from my list... This revelation just happened to take place the minute after I just installed my new BNR Stage 4 turbo. As I sat there surveying my extremely sick looking Turbo II, it dawned on me that I was ignoring the big picture and basically putting "lipstick on a pig"--as the rednecks say. I needed new exhaust and turbo gaskets, electrical tape was peeling off the wiring harness, the turbo needed to be clocked differently, I needed a new couplers, my oil-pan gasket was leaking badly, my spark-plugs were costantly fouling, I needed bigger injectors and a new tune, I just broke two vaccum-splitters, I sold all my gauges, my coolant seals are going out--as are my oil-control rings. Not only that, but one of my Apexi canisters split after hitting a speed-bump, I'm tired of the "flat" look and my new wheels need their lip refinished...
My point is, after just spending the past two weeks painting my new Enkei Evolution RS's, installing new drilled/slotted rotors, wheel-spacers, brake-calipers, brake-pads and S/S lines, rolling the fenders, modifiying and painting my "euro" s5 tails on my TII and now the BNR turbo--I've been ignoring the big picture... My TII needs a complete overhaul, rebuild and repaint... That being said, instead of wideband tuning my Turbo this Saturday, it'll be sitting on the side of my house collecting pollen and dust. And yes, it'll be there for either one month, or four months. Depending upon how quick I finish up my *other* and new turbo-project.
Either way, here's some pics I took of it yesterday before I decided on my new route.

Do it Erik. It is such a good feeling when you fix and complete everything to make the car prestine. Granted it might and most likely will be a headache along the way, there is no better feeling then knowing your FC is in tip top shape and is mean as a mother f*cker.

Dude, your car is beautiful. Why not dump your other project and put some time into cleaning up this one. A lot of you problems are just time consuming, but not really money consuming. Other than the obvious need for a rebuild and the tune most of that is cheap stuff. The oil pan gasket gets fixed witht he rebuild. The tune comes AFTER the rebuild, so its a down the line expense.
Just my thought. I guess this all depends on what your other project is

since it's not a money or space issue keep the car and put it on the back burner. If I had a place to keep my FB I would've kept it, but I didn't, so it got parted.
Dude, Its to time consuming. I think you should just stop working on the car.. Get concentrated on your "other turbo project".

But I know when im all finished with it and I drive it down the street and whoop some old guys corvette that he just bought for 50k itll all be worth it.

i got stuck in the trap of FC collecting too, buying cars and parts just because they were good deals, etc. but i realized i was spending half my time on each car, wasting a lot of effort. i ended up selling everything but my TII, and still trying to get rid of all my extra parts, and it si like a load off my back. all my car-time is now devoted to the TII, and it is almost done. i say stick with the car pictured above, and get rid of all your other projects

i'm on the same boat as you erikseven! i'd like to put the car off to the side, but it's my only car/daily! it's in need of a major overhaul. leaks here and there, body needs work, and above all, basically all my suspension bushings are SHOT!

i really need to find another daily so i can properly turn the FC into an ultimate weekend warrior!! it's just too hard to do that while i'm driving it and other "problems" pop up...
well all in all, your FC looks to be headed the right direction! big UPS!

Hey Erik, where did you get the front lip? It is a lip to the stock S5 bumper, right?
I did similar recently, except i completetly abandoned my 1st gen. Brought tears to me eyes, but life goes on. More money to dump into this project. And more time to start jaming agian! I bought a new Bass....

I'm going to be painting this TII white like my old Turbo II. Stock paint-code WY.

My whole issue is that I just need to keep my "FC priorities" straight. I've got one perfect N/A that I've been daily-driving, so my transportation is covered... In reality, that's all that should truly matter. But aside from that, and more important than my "race-car" is this heinous, wrecked s5 Turbo II that's been sitting in my garage for the past two months. So yeah, my garage is getting really messy and cluttered with that hunk of garbage sitting there. Now, the reason I don't just pull *that* car out and pull my "good" Turbo II in, is because I just picked up a nearly complete TII-swap (engine, flywheel, clutch, tranny, manifolds, TB, fuel-system, AFM, turbo manifold, RB DP etc.) for $500 about two weeks ago.
Not only that, but I'm buying a low-mileage GXL that's been sitting for several years, for $200 this Saturday, to do the TII-swap into... It's just the timing isn't so hot right now for my "good" TII, because I had to really jump on these sweet deals.
Whatever, the coolest part about this situation is that it's basically planned out and "no lose"... I've got quick, good looking and reliable daily transportation in my N/A:

And I've got a profitable turbo-project that will be started in about three weeks. And as soon as I've sold that, I'll either immediately start tearing down my TII for a THOROUGH reworking, or wait until after my road-construction season has ended (mid-June through early September). Either way, I should have a ton of money to budget towards fixing every little thing imaginable in my TII, so life is still good.
If anyone's curious about that N/A, it was purchased by me and a buddy for $1200 and it looked like this:

It had a bad U-joint, so it had basically been garaged for the past couple years because the previous owner didn't know what was wrong with it. The vert-wheels were purchased for $100 with all their caps (plus an extra), the sport-spoiler was $100, the tails were free (by me
) and the FULL Racing Beat true-dual exhaust was $200 plus a set of my modified tails...

So, your the guy who bought the turbo from Tyler, I called the day after he sold it to you. Thats ok I am the guy who bought your stage 1 turbo about a year ago. Hit 244 at 8psi last month at Carb Connection in Kirkland, great little turbo.
