I have a dilemma and need some influence
Some seansible 2nd Gen owner influence... I have My ongoing project that every spare dime and moment I have goes into. And that is not where I need the the influence that is my priority and my pride and joy. However, I have a chance to trade my daily driver for a convertible 7.
A little about my DD, it is a 1994 Honda Civic Absolutly no mods, bone stock, looks like hell because of the awesome florida paint fade. The AC is ice cold, i get about 25-30 mpg its slower than molassas in january with my hot whole 1.5 sohc 5 speed. I hate this car I bought it for my commuter car since I drive from Lakeland to Tampa everyday.
So thats that, now on to the Vert
It is an 88 the motor has just been rebuilt. The car is running but the fuel tank needs to be drained cleaned and possible needs the pump replaced due to some one leaving gas in the tank before it was put down for the motor rebuild. Its just nasty. At this point I am not sure if the AC works or not. And it needs a new top. I found a top in West Palm Beach for 250 if the guy still has it. Anyway what would you do if you were me? I really really want it, but I am afraid that I will trade my civic and then have to dump my project $$ into more than just the fuel pump and top... I will try to get some pics and more information.
Im not really sure if I want logical influence, I want rotorhead influence... lol

This is coming from someone who has daily driven an RX-7, was well as a compact car: KEEP THE CIVIC!
I daily drove my car for several years and it was surprisingly reliable (it cost about 4 grand to get it that reliable, though). Since then, it has been a major ongoing project but I luckily have another car to drive now. It doesn't matter what you do, there is always a chance that it will leave you stranded, usually when you need it most (like when your wife just got out of the delivery room and you need to run back to the house.....). You should always have another car that is reliable. And thats not to mention the cost of running it. You will easily spend twice the money to gas for the 7, if not more. Used to that didn't matter, but at 3 bucks a gallon or whatever, thats a big deal.
I know it sounds like a great deal, and it is, but nothing is good enough of a deal to get rid of a reliable daily driver when you need one.

True... Sad but true. The wife thinks I am nuts but I am, And I feel the difference in my wallet from going from my 2.4 l nissan to the 1.5 l civic. I thought the truck got good mileage boy oh boy was I wrong. And I can only imagine the 7... I had sorta talked myself out of it before I posted and I was hoping some one would talkme back into it. I May just buy it out right instead of trading.. lol Of course I could also rebuild and port my motor or buy a haltech... Yeah see Talked my self out of it again. lo l Thanks guys!

i bought my 86 rx7 as a dd and now i am soon to be in need of a new motor so i will only have a bike as a dd i would prob be keeping the civic as i have spent alot of money on my rx just for it to keep breaking but i love the car and would trade anything for it.. But at the same time i dont know the condition of the 2 cars but know that a civic is hella lot more dependable at least as far as my experience has gone so far

I'm from a Honda family. Civics all the way, etc. I love Hondas <ducks>.
Search carefully, find a good RX-7, pay what you have to for it. Mine was $2500. Blue book was $2500 then, now it's $4500. That doesn't mean buy an expensive one without looking at it, that means examine it very very carefully before you buy. There are plenty of buyer's guides online and in the forum FAQ, plus you can have a mechanic look it over after that. I rely on my RX-7 as my sole car and DD. I pay signficantly less to keep it going than my family pays for their Hondas. And I paid much less up front. And blue book is going up in value. Key is finding a cherry one and doing careful maintenance (which my family doesn't do with their Hondas).
I hear good FC's (2nd generation) are getting harder to find. You might want to check out FB's (1st generation) too. They're quite inferior to the FC <ducks>, but I hear they're quite reliable. When I go to events it's always middle aged guys driving the nice FB's (though perhaps faded, etc.) whereas the young ones have the beat up FC's that they don't bring half the time b/c they can't. The FC can be just as reliable; the FB is just a lot simpler I suppose. I mean, part of it is b/c those middle aged guys are often the original owner, not someone who just bought a cheap P.O.S.

Rotaries confuse me
iTrader: (7)
I want a 3rd gen and could probably afford one coming up here soon, but it would put a huge tax on my financial. To the point where if something (big) broke on it, I'd be screwed. I've accepted that at this point in my life I'm just going to have to wait. Once I'm out of college (again), I'll have enough money for a 3rd gen and be able to do it right.
