i have a apexi exhaust

***** loud as ****. i have no clue what model it is because its discontinued.
but the cat has been clogging and my idle drops when i start it up. my normal
idle is 1500rpm and itll start at like 1k and then just die. ill boost it to get the crap out but i was wondering if i put a silencer on it, would it increase this compression more than it is now?

Adding a silencer will increase resistance in the exhaust flow, but by how much, I don't know. It may not be a whole lot. Replace that CAT and see fi you can fuind a few steel wool packed silencers you can weld into the exhuast.

pull out the cat and just bolt the exhaust up just to test it, and see if its actually the problem. if it is then either gut the cat (screwdriver and knock all the **** out.. this probably won't be legal where you are :P) or buy new cat / straight pipe.

Silencer will rob the engine of a decent amount of power, but will make low rpm driving easy as well with a bit more torque due to the increased back pressure

You still have a cat on the car (clogged at that) and you think it's loud now? Heh.
