I got that MF O2 sensor out finally!!!!!

I have been running around with a dead O2 sensor for 2 weeks and I have nearly gone blind from the fumes from the exhaust. so last night I decided to try one last time today.

I cut off the top half of the sensor with a dremel and then I took the next size smaller deep socket than the one that it calls for. I put on several extensions and I beat on it till it went donw on the sensor. then I put my ratchet on it and tried and tried and tried but it wouldnt budge.

I sprang my neck somehow and after I was finally able to move my head again I decided to get on the motor and use my legs to get more leverage on the ratchet.

it finally gave very slowly and I got it out.

put in the new one and all is good again.

in case anyone didnt already know- I had a o2 socket and all it did was round off the edges of the sensor so it was just slipping and doing no good.

it was a pain but at least it is out and swapped and I dont have to remove the manifold yet. I will 1st thing next year when I put on a header and put in the 5spd. tranny is about maxed out now with the few mods so far.

just wanted to let all know who offered ideas

thanks
Mike

Nice work.
Now, go take out your new O2 sensor and put some antiseize, being careful to only get it on the threads and not the sensor tip, so that the sensor comes out easily the next time you replace it. $3 for a bottle of antiseize and 5 minutes now is certainly a lot better than dealing with this problem again, no?

Sorry to hear about your neck. I remember reading the thread a few weeks ago. Anti seize is the way to go. We used that method to take rounded lug nuts off. Beat on a smaller sized impact socket.
Glad you got it out!

I need to hook mine up. The wire is cut(?) about 5 inches above the sensor and wrapped in electrical tape. Wtf... dumbass last owner.

yes I put the anti-seize on it before install of new one. next time it comes off will be to go into header. if it is stuck then I will buy another. this was a last ditch effort not to remove the mani and put on the header now.

thanks for all the advice!

Good to hear you got it fixed, but I highly doubt it's the reason for your stinky exhaust. The O2 sensor is only used during light-load cruise, so you'd be going too fast to detect any change in exhaust smell from a non-functioning sensor. At low speed and idle the sensor is ignored by the ECU.

I've recently installed a new O2 sensor after running without one for six months, and I never noticed any difference in exhaust smell between the old sensor, no sensor and the new sensor.

stinky exhaust usually means high nox levels which means bad cats.

Angry

high nox is bad cats?
thats bad news for me...
anyway, im going to have to rip mine out too (o2 sensor). its stuck like a bitch. did that really help out the smoking though? i had my smoking under control, but its getting worse again. im pretty sure i need a new o2 anyway, and hoping that will help. also getting plug wires and all that, lots of unburned fuel, and already failed emissions once.

A new O2 sensor won't help smoking.
