I got another RX-7 today!!! pics... 56k beware!!!

Today (Well I guess it is really yesterday...) I got a 1989 GXL project car. I picked it up from a fellow forum member, JL_rotary.. (A really nice guy... its always cool to meet fellow rotor heads... thanks again for the car). It's black and in really great condition. I live in Central NY and this car was located about a half hour north of the Maryland border in PA... so it was quite a trek.. google said it would take 6hours 30 min each way but I did it in less than 12 hours round trip... including picking up a trailer at Uhaul and getting the car. Heres some pictures of the car after I got it home... the pics are kinda crappy because we have a crappy digital camera... but what the hell here they are. Also the car is dirty from the salt/sand spray that comes off the truck... damn winter.

Its a GXL not a Turbo II... ignore the hood and wheels

The engine was stripped to the block... it turns out that its an S4 block in my S5...

It was so close to being ready to be pulled that I couldnt resist...

I guess I forgot to check to see if they drained the coolant from the block...

The heart of the beast looks so small out side of the engine bay...

I also took the drive shaft off and the tranny out but I didn't take pictures...

So now part 2 begins... I have to take the engine that I rebuilt last winter out of my GTU and put it in this car... so heres the queston... Since this car had an S4 engine in it... what had to be changed on the chassis harnes (the one on the drivers side) to make the s4 engine work and will I have to change it back to put an s5 engine back in? The passengers side harness is no big deal since I'm just going to swap it out.

I was under the impression that this hole in the top of the center iron indicated that it was an S4 block... it may be an S5 engine with an s4 center iron if thats possible.. or it could just be an s4 block with all the right s5 parts bolted to it... I'm not sure... I havent looked at the computer to see if it is an s5 computer I really cant remember if the intake is s5 or s4.. its in the hatch but I didnt really look at it yet.

Its alright... I just went out to the garage to take that pic becasue I couldnt find a one that showed up from when I was taking it out... I could have been wrong in assuming that meant it was s4 and would have learned something new...

Never mind about the s4 conversion question... I took a look at the wiring and its all in tact... it hasn't been hacked up to make the s4 engine work... the ECU is an N351.. thats s5 n/a right?

Or they bought the car with it on and don't want to buy a new hood. Plus I think FC's look a little boring without the scoop.

Good luck in your search for a clean shell in NY! This n/a came out of southern PA... and I searhed for months to find a clean shell that was close enough to reasonably pick up... after this trip I wouldn't go too much further than this away to pick up a car becuase it makes it hard to get there and back reasonably in the day.
