I fixed my non-working cigarette lighter/power outlet.
Like any other bit of electronics on these cars, the power outlet was not working. My fuse was good and nothing else seemed to have a problem. I took the outlet out and found that the positive side of the outlet was not conducting electricity. I took the nut off of the back side of the outlet and disassembled it. After checking each piece I found a small wire that may actually be somesort of thermal fuse made of a solder itself. I used a soldering gun and a little solder on the ends of the wire and my problems are solved. An additional wire could be soldered to the part if needed depending on the amount of damage to the wire.

Your signature makes me confused. "Mazda = Fix Or Repair Daily". How DARE you link RX-7's with Ford. The fact that ford owns mazda (or atleast controlling marketshare - can't remember the specifics) means nothing with FC's... or even FD's I don't think. I don't think that was the case in 1991.. not sure. You ever seen a ford part on a 100% stock RX-7?

The piece that went bad on mine connects 2 brass-colored pieces of metal and has a plastic coating on it so it looks like a piece of wire. It is located on the back side of the outlet and I do not think you even need to disassemble the outlet to do the repair. Check and see if you have continuity across the thermal fuse.
