I dont know much about aftermarket tach's but I know the easy place to get a tach wire is the right next to the trailing coil. It's a single wire with a black female plug on it. I have my remote start working off of it, so I know it would work. hope this helps.

I work with Chris at a Dodge dealership. His car is pretty nice..a base model with a mystery aftermarket exhaust (looks kinda like a Bosal unit?)
Too bad I am now RX-7 less...my TII is still dead and my 88 GXL was destroyed by a semi today. I'm alright though...just really pissed.

i think the leading coil plug thing is the easiest thing to hook the tach up to. It should be the green wire coming off the tach. the red you should hook up to an accessory power output so your tach isnt on all the time.

Yeah, the leading coil is the correct one to use since it will fire twice for each revolution, just like a single coil in a 4-cyl engine. Then you can set the tach to 4cyl. Otherwise if you go with the trailing coil, you would have to have a tach that could work with a 2cyl engine, not very common. You should be able to connect it to one of the wires coming off of the coil itself (the wires that screw on to the coil).
