i was bored again, my divided downpipe

well i read nzconvertibles article and have my downpipe and turbo up at college,(i am in the welding program) so i decided to port my wastegate and divide my downpipe. the downpipe is an apexi three inch and the pipe i added is 1.75", I used 1/2" cold rolled steel for the new backplate. it seems like it should work very well with the porting.

i havent added a separating plate to keep the turbine gasses and wastegate gasses seperate, i will do that tomorrow

Good idea but I think you should have extended the pipe from the wastegate further down the exhaust stream, and at less of an angle.
but still what you did is way better than I could have done.
on my to do list is learn how to weld.

found a pic I had.

That looks awesome!

Is it really neccessary to divide turbine and wastegate gases?
I wish I could make something like that, or you could make one for me.

Im doing the exact same thing to mine as we speak, except Im just open venting it. I used to have a special backplate that closed off the exhaust and had a dump tube for the WG, but I sold it with my old turbo. The piece of metal you used for the divider inside the turbo.. could you make another? If so, PM me, Ill buy it from you. I just dont feel like bending/ cutting that piece myseld

It's not necessary, but it is a definite improvement. Flow through both the turbine and the wastegate are improved due to the reduced turbulence at the turbine exit.

Any clued-up exhaust builder should be able to make you something like this.

I’m no expert but I think the idea is to merge the two exhaust “flows”.
You want a smooth transition of 2 “flows” into 1.
I believe it is best to not disrupt the “flow” immediately after the turbo.

think of a "Y" fitting for a fuel line.

Personally I think dumping it at the downpipes turn towards the rear of the car would be an easier, more effective design. Just have to put up with the noise.
