hybrid : N/A motor + TII tranny combo
my car is a 87 N/A with S5 rotors
the motor was rebuilt , but the starter is gone and i think the tranny is gonna go soon
i have a 87 turbo II sitting around which i planned to strip it and part it out since i couldnt sell it for the right price
i figure i should do a tranny swap, throw the tII tranny, rearend, drivetrain ... to my N/A, make it autoX worrior or something.
ok here is the question: my tII tranny is a 90 and it bolt right up to my 87 tII, but if i throw it to my S4 N/A, what kind of flywheel /counterweight / clutch do i use ?
and about the rearend / driveshaft / halfshaft ... are they gonna have fittment issue ?
do i have to custom mount something?

no issues with the rear-end/driveshaft/halfshafts as long as they're all from a tII. The tranny will bolt up fine as well, just be sure to use the tII flywheel/clutch.

Everything will bolt up fine, it's not hard

- You will need a TII flywheel but make sure you get the same year TII flywheel as your N/A motor this is due to the different rotor weights between S4 and S5. So if you have an S4 (1986-1988) N/A motor get and S4 TII flywheel, same goes for S5.

When it comes to the drive shaft, rear end, 1/2 shafts, etc. You have another choice on what to do other than swap the whole TII drive line. Mazdatrix sells an aftermarket drive shaft (I believe it's cheaper than the OEM Mazda one). Reason they sell this is because the stock one you cant replace the U-Joints. This has replaceable U-Joints. You can buy this drive shaft and have the TII yoke to fit into the transmission and the N/A mounting plate for the N/A rear end. This is another option I think a lot of people over look.

He has an s5 rotating assembly though. I do to as well and somewhere in the future would like to do this. Shouldn't he be using an s5 tII flywheel as that is the same series as the rotoating assembly on the motor, or does he us the same flywheel as the year of the tranny?

note the t2 drivetrain components are much heavier and coupled to your NA engine will make the car very overbuilt. You will do worse in AutoX with this setup than you would with the NA trans and just a NA rear end w/LSD due to the increased weight.

though i dont think my n/a is gonna see more than 240 rwhp, which is the n/a drivetrain can hold for max, but tII got shorter gear nad all that.
and about my engine, its s4 housing and s5 rotor, for what i've read is flywheel have to match the rotors right ?
i just want to have it clear b4 i do anything

lets just put it this way the rotating assembly (front counter weight, rotors, flywheel or rear counter weight if you are running a light weight flywheel) has to be the same year S5 has to have S5. S4 has to have S4

i'm interested in doing this same thing I'd like to put my turbo drivetrain onto my N/A engine while I get my turbo motor rebuilt. they are both s4 the only confusion I'm having is the counterweight. Isn't the counterweight attached to the flywheel? or are u speaking of the front counterweight? from what I've read I think the front counterweights are the same regardless of turbo or N/A. this would lead me to believe that all I need is the turbo flywheel and clutch mated to the rest of the turbo drivetrain. correct?
